New on the forums ... so sorry if this has been mentioned before.

A friend has the hmmm .. Star Trek attack wing game, while that and X-wing play fairly close, there does seem to be one area as more of a Star Wars fan I am missing out on .... Factions to play.

Do we know are there any offical plans to open up X-wing for more than the Rebels and Imperials? There does seem a lot of room for a Fringe/Criminal Faction .. and of course who wouldn't want to see a Mandalorian Faction complete with a Basilisk.

Some folks do pirate tournaments which allow ships from any faction. I think the only restrictions are that you cannot use any unique pilots or upgrades, and nothing that say "Rebel Only", "Imperial Only", etc.

If you are looking to do a multiplayer game, I'd point you to my FFA Thread, which explains a scenario for multiple players, and there is even a video for our first playthrough. It is one option for a Free-for-all game.

If you don't want free-for-all, you can always do a 2v2 or 3v3 game with even points... but those tend to take a long time.

Maybe I am just to much of Star Wars fan Vs. Gaming fan ... but I just can't believe no one would have asked about Yuuzhan Vong, Mandalorian even Republic & Separatist ships before.

Just seems a natural way to move forward and keep the game expanding

I think if they add another faction to the "official" game, it will end up being an Independent faction.

I would assume that an independent faction, or "non-Aligned" would essentially be it's own faction, but you COULD add independent ships to a Rebel build, or an Imperial build, at the cost of 2 extra points per ship... or something like that.

Yes that was the kind of thing I was thinking of first of all ... like the old Star Wars Miniatures game, by Wiz Kids?? ... But of course following that through ... may as well use the Prequel films, again it would be just Republic & Separatists ... Droid ships could be interesting?

I hope it doesn't happen. Its perfect the way it is. I'm sure there are fantastic stories about said characters but i cant see them doing it. Its already a very simplified and clutter less game. Adding a new faction and ships that can be taken by both sides etc etc. will have some bad balancing effects. But thats just my opinion and its a biased one.

FFA and team play is what makes this game alot more fun then just 1vs1. Its a good change up to the game. I wish i could play more scenario type matches.

Fair opinion though.

I think ever since they introduced Boba Fett as an Imperial... that pretty much cemented the fact that there will only ever be 2 factions. I mean if they are making bounty hunters strictly for ONE side... then there is probably never going to actually be a neutral faction.

AND its called Xwing and not like Star Wars Squadrons or Factions. They have added bounty hunters and smugglers. I see them just doing as they have, with new ships and upgraded repaints.

WOuld I like another faction? don't know, but I'm not big on the "expanded story". I didn't read the books, I watch the movies and played some of the video games. Thats about how far I have gone with story lines, so while others are wanting more, I am fine with the ships they release. I don't know what else there is, so I don't have the need for it.

Oh I accept some people don't consider the expanded universe Cannon ... but if your going to draw a line on it .. then that should mean No Tie Defenders, Phantoms, E-wings, HWK & Headhunters ..all these are from Books, PC Games or grapic novels, not the films.

A third faction is really unnecessary. As others have said, you can really make the game what you want - factions, pirate style, missions, etc. You can easily cross pollinate as you please.

FFG said this would be a rebel vs imperial game. I completely agree with side expansions that add a few ships for scenarios but nothing tournament legal. I have to say I appreciate the game the way it is as well.

I would limit it to the 4 that seem to be the most generic. the YT-2000, Firespray, Lambda and the Hawk... these 4 would seem to be able to be seen on either side of the line. I would agree that there would still be limitation for the Rebel/Empire only characters, but still the capabilities would expand some gameplay.

its not bad to have more factions involved i mean we dont need them now bsut maybe in the future why not ?

there are plently of other members and players who think the way i do dont think that we are in the minority of something else here

And I was not suggesting trying to change tournaments or their rules for the Pure Gamer types .... still can have your 1 Vs 1 offical stuff .. but you would just have a bit of choice. Not that I have ever taken part in a tournament ... don't think I ever would, not the kind of thing that interests me.

I bought the game because I like Star Wars and tend to get enjoyment from it whether through Games, Books, Films whatever.

It was just a thought .. coming at it from more of a Star Wars fan angle than a Gamer angle

na bor i talked over this in 2 trheds of my own where i even made plans on like new kind of touarnement modes

like the what if scenario mode what if we would have separatist and other stuff in the galactic war that rise up but yeah i talked over it many times. what saw some attention of many people and the hardliners that stick to the original trilogy thing like i dont know what a clone is lol xD

just sayin i can stil link my other threads where i talked over it so we can share opinions and i really want to see pirates cause here is someone who has awesome pirates minatures for this x wing game with lots of custom cards.

i think that fantasy flight games will be releasing other factions if they are done with the main ones i mean come on we have so much to see from this star wars universe.

those hardliners only know X wing, A wing and Y wings and the Tie Fighter they never saw any other ship and Defender is EU

Expended Universe ;P from the comic books, computer games and novels ;P

and the thing that we are going deep into the EU is a good thing mate ^^ so we will see more tie variants in the future like other kind of ABC-Wings like the C wing and K wing bomber

The official rulebook says you can have any number of players as you please, however it is still rebels vs. imperials, and each player needs to have their own distinct ships to control. So Bob and his 70 pt squad of A-Wings can team up with Dave and his 80 pt squad of X-Wings to take out Steve and his 150 pt squad of TIEs.
