Can We Be Done Freaking Out Now?

By Bohrdumb, in X-Wing

Sadder still when you look around and realize that probably half the people on this forum never had an opportunity to see the Original Trilogy in the theatres, and all they know is that Greedo shot first.

I guess I should admit I wasn't alive when the original trilogy came out, but I did get to see the original version and I thought I was going crazy for awhile when they changed it (also does anyone remember a giant octopus in the Goonies?)

Just to put your mind at ease, it's a deleted scene. Here's the Youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35AUFYzvUXI

But on a more serious note, I'm not even entirely sure any of the new cards will dramatically impact the meta. It is still way too early to make that determination--just as it is too early for wailing and gnashing of teeth. Just speculating, the only card in Rebel Aces that I see influencing the current meta is the Enhanced Scope mod. It allows certain ships to avoid blocking, but Adv. Sensors did that to a degree already in the same upgrade slot. To be clear, there are a LOT of fancy new tricks, but it would fit into the existing pattern of powerful, expensive rebel ships. To a degree, Chaardan Retrofit will influence this dichotomy, but not as dramatically as the already-announced Z-95.

The other thing to note is that FFG is making a strong push to make stress a more relevant part of the game, making it easier to gain and lose stress. As stress mechanics become more emphasized (almost said stressed), the generally more nimble Imperial ships will be better, relative to their more ponderous rebel foes.

I think my only real concern, is that they slow their roll a bit. I think they're putting out ships far too quickly. If you respond too fast to something, there is good likelihood to over extend and send the pedulum swinging in the other direction. Let us get comfortable with what's out now, and leave it alone for a while.

This -1,000,000,000.

YOU slow down your purchases and get use to what YOU have to play with. Please let the rest of us get our ships on a more fast-tracked time line. I understand this may make you uncomfortable, but just put your big girl panties on join the party ok cupcake.

I really am still in shock that you actually typed those words into the comment box, reviewed them for errors and content and then was like "Yeah, that looks good".

Honestly, that is just horrible.

I'm just joking with you man

You must not be aware how to have civil conversation.

Too quickly? Attack Wing releases are happening too quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if that game ends up broken in the next two years because of how quickly they're making their releases without checking the power gaming builds. At least in X-Wing every wave has at least one card to help check TIE Swarms- arguably the most power gaming list in the game- even though they're still beaten by regular lists!

I'm not sure what your overall point here is? 1) Attack Wing is too fast, so let's not be like them. 2) Waves keep putting out cards to stiffle the TIE Swarm - which isn't a major issue any more so...they can stop responding to it?

Off topic I know, but if you put Merc Co pilot on Hans YT is it possible in that case, Greedo and Han will shoot at the same time if at range 3 ?

Two years? I don't play, but from the outside I wouldn't give it two months .

But the Mercenary Copilot isn't Greedo. It's some other Rodian smuggler type; would Han or Chewie really let Greedo aboard the Falcon? ;)

Thank you for that. I like the subtle changes. Makes things cleaner. I have seen the originals and the revisit and both are good BECAUSE its still star wars. Really don't understand the hate of retouchs. Yer putting Hayden in was a bad idea but meh. I will also say this ( braces for the hate ) I liked the prequels. There I said it hate away. I like the fact that Vader's story becomes a sad tale.

Edit: sorry the quotes gone all to pot on that

Yes, too fast, as a counter-point to thinking x-wing releases are happening too fast. Those looking to future wave releases fixing things in the meta can at least count on future waves finding ways to address perceptively overpowered strategies. I don't feel that with Attack Wing... feels like more cards just reinforce those overpowered builds instead of dampening them.

I don't know enough about Attack Wing to speak to their releases, but that doesn't mean that Xwing isn't going faster than they should.

They've got ships on the way to respond to other ships that haven't even been released. Not to mention there are a limited number of ships and pilots to choose from, since this isn't a unique IP. Since they have a given framework in which to work, the source material will eventually run dry, so faster they release, the faster they're scraping the barrel.

Wizkids is kind of following the Magic mentality with Attack Wing. Rapid fire releases and the need to keep up to stay competitive (not saying its bad, just not my thing). X-Wing right now has release announcements coming rapid fire, but everything in the past says the releases will come out evenly spaced over a relatively long period of time. I'd be surprised if we got all of these this year. Also if you count each box/pack as one release, that means this year FFG is releasing a very modest 8 new boxes/packs this year. Even if you were to count each ship card as a different release you still don't come close to the normal release schedule for most miniature games.

I hear you. I'm just worried that they're busy sculpting their releases so far out, about things going on now. By the time the next few things hit the market, the game could be playing very differently, and they may already have ships in the pipeline that further destabilize the game.

And they missed all the gratuitous cheesecake shots of Carrie Fisher. Man, she was some woman. Too bad they edited them out of the rereleases. Now you'll never know.

Oh you poor, poor people born after the 1980's. You missed the hotness of Erin Gray and Catherine Bach, too.

What were we talking about ?

Oh yeah, Star Wars.....

Just wait, we still got two more pilots to see the details on. I'm sure we can collectively lose our friggin' minds over how Overpowered/Useless/BothAtTheSameTime they both are. Nevermind whatever expansion is next.

no... not done freaking out... just depends on the type of 'freaking out' ;)

That was one of the worst changes George could have made. When I was a kid and watched Star Wars IV for the first time...I loved how Han shot Greedo from under the table. It really added to his character of being a smuggler who looked out for himself. Doing whatever it takes to survive. By the end of the movie, Han felt the need to fight for a greater cause. I wish Star Wars would have been even more gritty and dark...

Greedo didn't shoot first in the special edition. Han shot him first and Greedo had a death spasm that blasted the wall next to Han. ;) On a more serious note I don't understand why the Special Edition gets so much flak It was my first exposure to Star Wars when I was 10 and I loved it back in 1997. Now at the ripe old age of 27 I have since gone back and watched the originals. I like both of them, the originals for starting this whole thing and the special edition for being cleaned up and improved. Now what I utterly despise is the newer edition that was released after the prequels which goes back and changes the special edition and places in scenes that make it more in step with prequels (one of the most hurtful things was Boba Fett's voice changed to that of the clone voice).

It gets flak because I liked that Han shot Gredo in cold blood ! It's what he deserved for being green .

I guess, I feel that releasing this Rebel Aces info has really stolen the thunder from Imp Aces... and made is somewhat underwhelming. Imp Aces is balanced, and this Rebel one has some over powered concepts .. but untypically, they are still making changes after posting the coming soon photo and info post. So... that said, how much more will be changed by the probable release date of christmas or Q1 2015..

Thank you for declaring a release that has been out for a week balanced, and one we've just seen previewed unbalanced.

Your extensive and rigorous play-testing surely led you to both conclusions, I'm sure

O my sweet lord

We have known about Imp Aces since last year, and I have play tested them, and seen how balanced they are... the idea of the rebel version being OP is a personal observation and after seeing some of what they have shown us, is accurate (IMO), but thanks for particpating with a rude comment and nothing to show I was wrong... or a constructive counter to my statement
