Advice needed for paint touch-up

By face747, in X-Wing

Quick question for all you painters out there.

I recently picked up Imperial Aces and the Royal Guard Interceptor has some red paint on one of the black wing panels that kinda bugs me. I would like to paint over the red to cover it up but Im not sure what type of paint to use.

Since it will only be a small area, can i get away with just using some flat black testors paint and apply lighlty with a small brush? Would the color match? Also, should i use acrylic or enamel paints and do i need to worry about covering it in some sort of sealer?

Again, never really painted anything like this (except for tank models when i was younger) and I only plan on painting a very small portion of one panel to cover up the errant paint from the factory (wont even paint the whole panel).

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

I know with some of the Bwings in the past, I used an Exacto to scrap off the emblems on the wings, it worked great. I dont know if it would work on yours though, depends on what the base color is.

If you don't mind the price GW paints fit really closely with FFG.

Yeah, I tried to scrape it off with an exacto last night but it made it worse. Thats why im hoping to just touch it up.

As for the GW paint, is it just flat black for the color?

Yer. Ask for the base black ( abaddon black ). It will be matt when dry.

So I picked up the Abaddon Black Citadel paint last night and used it to touch up the paint spots on my interceptor. Looks better than it did before but the paint is a darker black than what is used for the panels on the stock ships.

Is there an easy way to lighten it up a bit? I dont want to make too big a project out of this and it is a lot better than it was but my OCD still wants to know if there is a way to get it to better match the surrounding portions of the panel. If not, I think I can get used to the slight shade difference.

Thanks!
