Tournament legal

By tk426, in X-Wing

I play all three Star Wars games made by FFG. X-Wing, LCG, and Edge of Empire. I was going over the tournament rules for X-Wing, we have our store championship this weekend the 22nd, and I saw that Imperial Aces is not legal to play. But yet in the LCG tournament rules it says that any force pack is legal to play upon release. Can anyone shed some light on this as to why this is. Or am I mis reading the rules.

They avoid letting new product be tournament legal in the middle of a season or whatever. That's what I've seen kicking around here. You can be sure that it won't be tournament legal right from product availability.

They won't be legal until sometime in April when they update the FAQ and Tournament Rules.

The biggest thing I see is continuity for the Game Store Championships. They weren't out for the GSC's that took place over a month ago and with a Regional bye at stake it's probably good to have all of them play under the same rules.

Yep yep yep as said above. Its just because of the store championships going on. Not everyone has had a chance to try or even see the new aces yet so waiting until the store champs are over makes the most sense since most have played without them and it doesn't make sense to mess around with stuff like that.

I understand all of the reasons listed above. But why on page 7 of the Star Wars LCG tournament rules does it say all cards are tournament legal upon the packs release. Store championships are still going on and Heroes and Legends releases next week. As it reads we should be able to use H&L in a store championship. But yet Aces didn't make the cut.

X-Wing is not the LCG. They have different rules.

Because card games and miniature games are very different things have very different play styles.

As a rule most miniature games ssem to allow the player base some time with new models before making them tournament legal. That way everyone gets a chance to see them in action and any rule conflicts or OP combos may come to light before they get used competitively and so can get fixed. Plus the above statements make sense too XD. Just my 2 cents.

Actually during the run up to Worlds this past fall Wave 3 wasn't even legal up until like 2-3 weeks before the event specifically because they hadn't yet updated their tournament rules and FAQ.

With X-Wing you always have to go off what the tournament rules currently state.

Can anyone confirm that I can use my Push the Limit and/or the blood stripe Interceptor miniature, both from Imperial Aces, in a store championship?

On the basis that PTL was previously released in the A-Wing expansion, and the miniature is just a repaint.

PTL is good since it was with the A-wing.

Repaints are also allowed according to latest tournament rules - so a blood stripe interceptor is also fine.

Nice. Thought there might be a superslim chance I'd have to present a proof of purchase from the A-Wing and Interceptor expansion packs! :/

Which could be IMPOSSIBLE unless directly bought those ships new instead of gaining them through trade and/or secondary markets.

You're fine. There is nothing that really denotes the Push the Limit from being different, and repaints are legal. As long as you're not using any of the new cards, I think you'd be perfectly fine.

I a game of x-wing, a single ship might be half of the game, so it is more important to limmit the use of recent modells

Huh?

The line in the rules reads: All components from the following products may be used in officially sanctioned tournaments.

It doesn't matter if the copy of Push The Limit came from an A-Wing or from Imperial Aces , it's fully legal as an A-Wing expansion inclusion. Likewise Shield Upgrade cards are the same and are legal.

Likewise, the bloodstripe painted TIE Interceptor is a "customized" TIE Interceptor , and is the same thing as included in the TIE Interceptor expansion. Plenty of people, myself included painted those on months ago. Same thing goes for the Royal Guard variant, it's just a custom paint job. If you only have a Imperial Aces pack, the only legal pilot would be the Saber Squadron Pilot . The rest are new and won't be legal until the Tournament rules are updated.

The point here is that if some new piece of tech (a ship) could come it eating half of a squads points (ok, that is a little much here but imagine a Falcon like vehicle entering the scene) FFG wants to give people time to adjust to it before it makes its big splash.

It seems posting this in the X-wing forum has made people miss the point. You can say the same thing for new cards/combos in an LCG.

As to the original topic, I also play swlcg and netrunnner and have wondered this. There really is no good answer other than the releases for this game (the regular waves anyway) tend to be more reminiscent of old ccg expansion set releases (scheduling wise) instead of "regular" monthly packs (using that very loosely in reference to heroes and legends ofcourse). It seems antiquated and unnecessary. The reasons given in the first few posts are pretty obvious and make sense, but there is no reason for it not to be uniform one way or another across their games. Oh well.

I think another reason there is a difference is that the LCG releases are so much more frequent - theoretically every month or so. If they followed the same method as X-Wing for declaring tournament legality, they would have to update the FAQ every month or so just to keep up with the new releases.

I'm not saying either way is good or bad, only that this is one possible reason for the difference.
