Rhino's Imperial Repaints (Death to Rebel Scum!)

By Rhinoviru3, in X-Wing

What's up forum,

So my GF9 mat is here, and I've made a heavy start into my Imperial fleet. As with my Rebels, there is a story and theme behind what I have attempted; My Imperial ships are darker and feature two red blood stripes along their canopies to mark them as members of the 63rd wing. I'm going to start weathering these quite alot over the next few days, I want them to appear tireless and beaten up - stopping for nothing in their quest to track down my pesky rebels!

Still WIP at the moment, but I figured I should share!

Checklist for the future posts:

TIE/ln x5, = Post #1

TIE/A = Post #9

Kath Scarlet F-31 = Post #16

TIE/sa x3 = Post #?

Love it! oh... and destruction to the enemies of the Empire! those republic scum...

those actually look very nice.. I like the simplicity and how subtle they look.. excellent job..

the metallic where just looks like bright grey on this camera. I will have to look in to that!

Wow, that will look more beautiful up front (in metallic color).

I would love to be able to do something like this, but my paint-fu is even worse than grasshopper level.

Those stripes suit the TIE very nicely.

I feel like I have seen these somewhere before... ;)

They look great.

You need to tell me what exactly you did to wear them out. It looks like you went further than simply rubbing off the paint YOU painted. Howhowhow??

Haha, I told you I like it! :D

My process was to wash the TIE's twice (lightly!) in Nuln Oil, before drybrushing metallic colours and picking out other bits in straight metallic paint. Then I did some brown washes here-and-there and threw some browns at them. Simples!

TIE/A!

They look super sweet (Sterotypical villainous colours for the win!!!)

So... you painted MORE to make it look like LESS paint.

I am thinking backwards.

Yes. The plan is to make the opponent think so hard about this, that their vital brain functions are thus diverted from playing X-Wing, wherein I start removing their pieces and claiming "The Death Star did it"

I can't wait to paint some phantoms in black with two red stripes on the canopy :3

Did a bit more work on Kath; she was far too sheeny before and I wanted to make the red look...worn. faded. Whatever.

Ooh, nice looking outfit there!

Thanks for posting this. I am a painter, but have yet to tackle painting my x-wing minis. Been really nice seeing some of the subtle work here and in Hoosteen's thread. Inspiring me to customize my beloved imperials.

Very nice repaints! The red stripes are really nice.

Kath looks amazing :)

Thanks guys!

I have three TIE Bombers and a Lambda to come!

Been working on finishing the Spear of Alderaan for a painting contest, so they may have to wait a little while - updates on this thread soon :)

Those ties make me think "Yoga Fire!"

Bombers!

I've really rushed these (time constraints are a right womprat), but I have started touching them up, along with starting my Interceptor, of which I'm pretty proud of so far!

This one was recoated in a light grey that matches the TIE/ln

DSC_0398.jpg

This one was left in it's blue-y grey. And it's visible. And nasty. My only conclusion going forward is that TIE's should really be recoated before washes. Badly.

Stupid flash, bringing out all the horrible blue you can't normally see...*grumbles*
