But then we'd need a better Rebel version that doesn't have to roll dice (it automatically deals 200000 points of damage to each enemy ship on the board) and cannot be destroyed at all so that the Rebels and Imperials can be balanced.
The Death Star
Why do people take things to such a literal level?
"The DS has 18289 tie fighters, 583 turrets..." Etc. It obviously wouldn't be a moveable piece and instead would just be a section or playmat.
Some people are such buzz kills. Same thing happened in the ISD thread.

easy answer, probably because usually the people starting these threads also start out on a literal level aka ship/unit level.
the section/playmat/scenario workaround is usually the next step in these discussions.
the problem with scaled miniatures people tend to take scale literal.
blame Lucas for putting a few too many magnitudes in the range of the ships sizes.
the fleet level Macar suggested is also one of the workaround considered occasionally, but I don't know if FFG will go for a whole new level, at least on the same game.
erm well we could all wait for this kickstarter to give us the Death Star we all want...
Or this one for less than half the price:

Or this one:

Okay not counting the ink?

It's not buzz kill, it's reality, scale is a big deal in this game.. an ISD or DS is not something you can scale down to make playable.. they would be a joke.. and unimpressive, which is opposite of what they should be..
The Death Star should be almost completly filled with laser emitters in order to get a laser beam that is strong enough to destroy an entire planet.
Having a Death Star - like station orbiting earth would be a perfect defence from meteors which would strike our planet.
But we must develop the fusion reactor first! And its ventilation system should be able to stop proton torpedoes.
Evacuate this thread now? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!
I could see the Death Star somehow working in as a custom map, perhaps. Something to go along with larger point teams.
A nice large 3 feet by 5 feet spread that costs the Empire points to use some features. That small strip would really be the only way to get it in the game, though. Scale and whatnot.
Death Star: http://community.fantasyflightgames.com/index.php?/topic/101111-my-tiny-death-star/
Why is everyone so negative about this, making it out like something that has to be a ridiculously small model and that can't be done? Lots of people have created Death Star surfaces and even trenches. It's totally do-able.
Once I get the trench finished, I'm seriously considering building a six or nine foot Star Destroyer (in sections). Again, primarily as a play surface.
Admittedly I like your tiny deathstar, but I think there was a perception of the OP and his idea sounding like a large ball on the table.. maybe I'm wrong, but ideas sometimes get lost in a text based world..
Heck even I am still kicking around an idea to make a trench run model.. maybe 2, 3 foot sections.. maybe 2 feet wide, with an 8 inche gully running through it...

I agree, especially given the references to the main super-laser and whatnot.
I just think he needed a nudge in the right direction rather than some of what happened.
Though I think it might be amusing to put part of the super laser on part of the built up board and then let it take out the huge ships.. lol..

I dont think it would be good for defending earth with its laser. The shields were so powerful on the 2nd Death Star that the only thing that could breach them is a mark 2 Super Laser. Use those shields to intercept meteors would be good or just using those shields.
Both the Mk 1 and Mk 2 Super Lasers are way more powerful than fans realize. Destroying Plants is no big deal for them. Just stricly talking about Mk 1 Super Laser, it was so powerful at its max that it destroys the barrer between real space and hyper space with a beam as inteance as a steller core. This beam causes such an upheavel of mater and antimater that when it all mixed that hundreds or thousands of small space-time singularites form.
What the Mk 1 at its max is "capable" of doing is destroying the univers maybe even the multivers through massive chain reaction that wouldnt / shouldnt be instant.
To put things into perspective the reactor output for the first DS is equal to three main seq Stars. The 2nd Death Star has three reactors, two used only for the Mk 2 Super Laser, ether together or individually the output is equal to hundreds of giant stars.
I meantion the 2nd DS because you want a DS that really is invincible and the 1st one witch was meant to be destroyed. =] Just imagine what the Super Mk 2 Laser could do with extreme much more energy used in its Lasing process...
