Now, hopefully you're wondering "how can I get a piece of this great action?" Well here's how! Join us in South Bend, IN on March 29th to play in the first ever "Campaign Against Cancer: an X-Wing Miniatures Event". This is an X-Wing tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society...and as you can see, we have some FANTASTIC prizes to give away! The cost of entry into the tournament is a donation to the ACS of at least $15. There will be 6 rounds of swiss styled play and raffles all day long for those registered and present.

To register for the event, visit us at www.x-wing.org
To make a donation to the American Cancer Society through our event, visit www.x-wing.org

Think this is a great idea? Too far away to make it? You can still support our cause with a small donation. Why? Well #1 every dime you donate will go to the ACS through our local Relay for Life fundraising drive. No one affiliated with our tournament is getting a dime in reimbursement, all prizes and time invested are donated on a voluntary basis. And #2 donating to our event will help drive up the money that we raise for the ACS, which in turn helps our event to gain momentum and grow for next year (with hopefully more slots available), more corporate support (AKA better prizes!) and better overall recognition by the nongamer community (what!?!? gamers aren't just nerds sitting in their basements in the dark?!?).

So please consider coming out and joining us, or even making a small (or large if you are so inclined) donation to the success of the event. After all, when cancer dies, we all win. Have a great day folks!

Do it! You know you want to play!

Awesome plan, awesome cause.

Much respect!

Just a couple of quick notes that i forgot to mention before. We are limiting players to 64 (we have a little over half that so far) and Imperial Aces are legal for our event as it is a fundraiser and not a sanctioned FFG event (although the ARE providing prizes.)

Also, I was asked to explain the tournament play format a little more in depth. There will be 6 swiss-styled rounds, but with a different format than usual. After registration everybody will be broken up into 8 person pods based on zip code (spreading similar zip codes out) so that players that arrived with others should not be grouped together. We will then play 3 swiss rounds with each player only playing those within their own pod. Then we take a lunch break. When we come back from lunch, players will be reorganized into new pods matching them up with the others that performed similarly. Ex; Everyone that went 3-0 will be in Division A, and then subsequent divisions will be paired up similarly. The goal is that the last 3 games would hopefully be between people of similar skill levels. The winner of Division A will get be tournament champion and will get a prize. The rest of the top 8 will also then get prizes. Then the winners of the individual divisions below that.

Why are we doing it this way? Because in normal tournaments, if you go 0-1 or 0-2 right off the bat, you have no real reason to continue as you know you wont be at the top. This way, even someone that goes 0-3 to start has a reason to stay after lunch because his last 3 games will be against people who performed similarly.

Anyways, thanks for the questions and I hope this helps

What an excellent idea! I'd love to come, but sadly an ocean separates us. Best of luck with the event!

I really should stop using the word "similarly."

Good morning boys and girls! We have 7 days left until our big event. If you have not registered yet, please do at www.x-wing.org. You may also make your donation to the ACS there. Also remember, if you want to stay the night locally, call Melanie @ (574) 968-1072 for a $72 room.

We still have about 25 spaces available of our 64...but those can go fast...so register today!

If you have any questions, email me at [email protected].

Wow what an awesome event. Glad to see you got a ton of support too. If I was in the area I would attend without a doubt. Hope you get a huge turnout for this.

May the Force Be With You all

x-wing for a cause! the indy players will be there!

Just think, If everyone who saw this post took the time to donate $1 to the ACS, We would have raised over $300 more towards cancer research. You don't have to play to support the X-Wing Campaign Against Cancer. Just visit www.x-wing.org and click on the donate link at the top of the page.

Great idea, and great cause! Best of luck!

Come on guys from Chicago area and Illinois, we know you want to do this. As of tonight it looks like there are 40 signed up for next weekend and I believe that leaves 24 more slots.

Just think of the Bragging Rights to win this. And the trophy they are putting together is SWEET!

Peoria is going to be there, okay 3 of us, and none of us actually live in Peoria.. BUT we will be there! We all do go play at Just for Fun in Peoria.. so there is that.

Looking to have a great time and meet some new cool people to boot.

And we can't let the Hoosiers take this!

Just saying there has been a whole lotta effort put into this and we plan to support it however we can.

You guys in South Bend rock!

Thank you everyone who came out to support this event! We were able to raise $1,264.27, ALL of which will go to the American Cancer Society. Thank you guys so much for your time, generosity and competitiveness! Throughout the day we saw experienced players helping less experienced players....other players giving up some of their prizes to people who hadn't won as much...and many people donating way more than the $15 entrance fee. All around, this was the CLASSIEST group of people that I have ever gamed with and I was proud to TO the event. Ultimately, Dom from Chicago took home the grand prize, with Tyler from Peoria coming in second and Andrew from Indianapolis coming in third. Other division winners included Trevor from South Bend, Nick from Indianapolis, Erik from Kalamazoo, and Kevin from South bend. Lastly, Anthony from Indianapolis took the Bloodstripes award, Trevor from South Bend took the Rogue Squadron award, Matthew from Chicago won Imperial Backstabber and Andrew from Indianapolis won Rebel Secret Agent. Oh, and the Bothan Award went to Zach from South Bend.

It was a very fun day for me, and if you are interested in seeing pictures of what we did, here are 135 of them taken throughout the day. Thank you again to all of our sponsors such as Troy Denning, Michael Stackpole and Fantasy Flight Games for helping us make this as successful as possible!
