Rogue Squadron Expansion

By Stone37, in X-Wing

With the Imperial Aces now out, I'd love to see a similar set for Rogue Squadron. My idea is the expansion would come with a Rogue Squadron painted Y-wing and A-wing. It would also come with 2 Rogue Squadron Title cards. (This seems to make the most sense as Rogue Squadron used X-wings, Y-wings, B-wings, A-wings, and Z-95s.)

Gemmer Sojan is a great candidate for a unique A-wing pilot.

With the "real" Rogues joining the fray in the Rebel Transport I don't see this happening in the foreseable future.

ehh... While yes, it's technically true that Rogue Squadron flew Y wings B wings A wings and Z-95's (as well as E wings)... they were truly known for flying X wings. The Z-95's were used at the liberation of Coruscant, and only 6 of them flew in them then. And then they proceeded to sell them for profits to fight against Isard during the Bacta wars... So they didn't really fly Z-95's.

As for A wings, while Pack Cracken flew an A wing squadron before and after joining Rogue squadron. The only other time they were in A wings is after it basically dissolved, and then they decided to slap the name on a group of fighters for good ole times sake. Same with the B wings. And that only lasted until they convinced the higher ups to put them back in X wings.

And I have no memory of when they flew in Y wings.

While I believe you are correct in saying that the Rogue Squadron is known for piloting X-wings, many of their pilots flew other ships before joining (and while a part of) Rogue Squadron. I think it would be a fun game mechanic to represent Rogue as the special forces of the Rebels, capable of flying anything. I do agree that there should be a Rogue Squadron X-wing pilot card though and ONLY the X-wing should have such a card. Other ships could be via a Title upgrade.

As for the Y-wings, many Gold Squad members became Rogue pilots. Wedge and Luke both used Y and B wings in a few stories.

The core Rogue squadron pilots are (imo)

Luke (founder)

Wedge (founder)

Tycho (founder)

Corran

Gavin

Ooryl

Nawara

Rhys

Obviously there are more, and if you listen to Wedge's thought process, the members of Red squadron at the Battle of Yavin were all rogue's before Rogue Squadron existed. So you could add all of them to this list too. And you could add a few others that joined at later points, or for shorter periods of time:

Aril

Pash

Lujayne (she just died too quickly)

Peshk (not really apart of the books)

Andoorni (again, not really apart of the books)

Bror (I could see the push to make him a core member of the rogues)

Asyr

And then there are those that came at a later date, but they are not the era we're playing right now. To see Jaina Solo commanding Rogue Squadron would just be silly.

That's fine... but now you're going and saying that any ships ever flown by any rogue pilot should be eligible for a rogue squadron release. And imo if there is a "Rogue Squadron" release, it should be for ships/pilots that flew together under the name Rogue Squadron. Which really should just be X wings. And should feature a kick $@# alt paint job of Wedge and Corran's X wing from the Bacta Wars.

There are many more "real" Rogue members that have not been added to that game yet:

I think his point was more "we're getting a ton of new, iconic X-wing pilots coming with the Transport, so I wouldn't be surprised to see them hold off on doing another expansion right away with a bunch more X-wing pilots."

I want a repaint Corran's X-wing. I'm pretty wierded out by his inclusion in the E-wing pack. I'm hoping a Rogue Squadron pack ammends this.

The idea is not just another "Aces" for the Rebels. There are already a ton of X-wing pilots out there and more are coming. The Rogue title card (as I proposed) would create a new mechanic among Rebel pilots. While we see Rogue as an X-wing only group in the movies, this is not so in EU. The spirit of Rogue is that they are the best of the best, taken from all different squadrons (not just X-wing). They can fly anything!

I'm pretty sure the Rogue's primary stories take place in the X-Wing, Rogue Squadron books. Yes, they can fly anything. But the X-wing is the games defining ship. It's the Universes defining ship. And it's the Rogues defining ship. There's nothing wrong with having an extra package of the things with some cool repaints and the characters from Rogue Squadron like the Aces Pack did for the Imperials. Packaging a Rogue Squadron pack with anything but X-wings(Except Snowspeeders maybe, but that has issues too.) is just not right. It goes against so much of the spirit of the Rogue Squadron books, and the opinons of the pilots as presented.

I don't know what you're talking about - we don't see rogue squadron at all in the movies. We see Rogue Group flying T-47 airspeeders... And we see Red Squadron flying X wings... We never see Rogue Squadron, and we never see Rogue Squadron flying X wings. I suppose one could make the argument that the Red squadron at Battle of Endor is actually Rogue squadron taking on the name Red Squadron for old times sake... But even then, we have no way to identify who is apart of red squadron or not, besides red leader, Wedge, in his X wing.

as mentioned, with Rogue Squad. tied to X-wings (at least primarily) and new x-wing pilots already packaged with the next upcoming big additions, I seriously doubt that we see a Rogue Squadron as an imperial aces equivalent anytime soon.

That said I, it doesn't mean we don't see a rebel aces exp., I just doubt they will be X-wings. Since, they used the imp aces to upgrade the interceptor a bit, my guess would be a set of a-wings (whatever squad they assign them to).

I'm hoping for Maverick, Goose, and Iceman. Maverick of course would have an action to take a 0 maneuver to watch everyone just fly right by.

More seriously - as a Rebel player, I feel like the Imps need some love more than the Rebs at this point.

I think the biggest thing missing from this game, lore wise, right now is the Rouge Squadron name. Because the game does't "need" more X-wings, I thought the idea of capturing the synergy of the squad might be a better option.

I agree there is some love that needs to be given to a few Imperial ships. The Aces will help the Interceptors be more competitive with B-wings and X-wings. The Advanced needs the same treatment. It needs more pilots and abilities that highlight its squad leader role.

I feel this needs to be done for the A-wings as well. There are two very good named pilots, but more could help the A-wing shine the way it really should. Some of the new upgrades that are coming out will help with this as well.

No we are talking about the lesser known, all female, Rouge Squad.

It's an easy typing mistake to make. We all know what's being talked about, and nobody thinks it's spelled Rouge.

You Rebels want a Rouge Squad?

What do you want next?

The Eyeliner Squad and the Lipgloss Squad?

Au contraire . I used to play WoW (and use their forums), and I assure you there are a lot of people who think it's spelled "rouge".

As to the thread topic--like others, I think it's likely that there will eventually be a Rogue Squadron X-wing (even if it's just one pilot card). But X-wings are the only product in the line with three(!) different releases; they've got the Core Set plus the X-wing expansion plus the Transport. I'd expect to see FFG take a break from X-wings for a good long while, and because X-wings are the iconic ship for Rogue Squadron, that means no Rogue expansion for the foreseeable future.

Rebs get 2 big ships, and the Imps get Aces. Imps need something else before Rebs get a ace pack I think.

And it's just as easy to proofread your post before spazzing out and hitting the post button. Hell, this forum software even tells you what is misspelled.

Not when Rouge is a real word it doesn't. Moreover many of us are using finnicky touch keyboards with autocorrect functions. It's not worth getting upset over obvious typos. Even published books combed over for errors dozens of times have mistakes in them. So long as a post isn't mangled unintelligable garbage it doesn't pay to care.

Rogue Squadron is not offended by a misspelling of their name.

On topic, I think the imps need a couple big ships, but an aces pack could really help the rebels have some more diverse squad building given you almost only see Bwings and YT's doing well in tournament settings.(Although with the advent of the Z95 I think we'll see that air out because being stuck with less than 17 points doesn't require packing on cards.

I feel like a almost called this one...
