No matter what upgrades you take ... you are better off with 3 x BH
How does three bounty hunters stack up against a tie swarm?
They actually feel very similar when you're fighting them. It's spooky.

The dual spray list is one of my favourites. I call it the Gardena, as in the garden sprinkler manufacturer, as its two 'Sprays. (I am so clever!
)
Anyway this is what I run with it:
Boba Fett
+Expert Handling
+Navigator
+HLC
Kath Scarlet
+Expert Handling
+Merc Co-pilot
+HLC
How about something like this;
Boba Fett;
-Recon Specialist
-Seismic Charge
-HLC
-Adrenaline Rush
Krassis Trelix;
-Recon Specialist
-Seismic Charge
-HLC
I'm not sure how I'd fly this exactly; try and deploy as a loose an asteroid field as my opponent allows, and use it for cover. Try and set up a joust involving Boba, drop the bomb, do the K-Turn, use Adrenaline Rush and Focus x2 for maximum killing?
In my 2x BH and Shuttle list, I've had much success causing a collision line, then dropping bombs as I gently fly up to use rear guns to hit everyone who just got bombed. I could still sort of do that here, but have Boba K-Turn with AR that first time, so allow me to pursue aggressively (using his bank switch move if needed, to keep behind them), and give Krassis time to K-Turn, then green move to wash the stress off, and provide long range support with 2x Focus and HLC.
Unlike the 2BH&Shuttle, I have zero experience with this list in a live match, so I'll have to play it out.
Totally goofing off with my wife played a round today using:
Kath Scarlet:
- Engine Upgrade
- Gunner
- Marksmanship
Boba Fett
- Engine Upgrade
- Gunner
- Seismic Charges
- Slave 1 (why not?
)
Vs
Luke Skylwalker
Biggs Darklighter
- R2D2
Garven Dreis
Prototype Pilot
From a guy who normally flies some kind of swarm (simply because of my wallet), it was really fun! Since I normally have more ships than her, she got to experience "swarmieness" and I got to experience "OhCrapIOnlyHaveTwoShips"ness.
Keeping both Keeping both Firesprays on the outskirts of battle, and using both of the rear firing arcs was a blast. Really got a good feel for the maneuverability of the ships.
At one point, Boba and Kath were on both sides of an Garvin at range 1... Super satisfying...
I've been spending the past couple weeks flying a ton of dual firespray (with no support ships). I love the firespray and wanted to see how viable I could make it with just the two ships only.
Learning to fly them together was the hardest part but I think I have that pretty good now.
I also have tried several different combinations of upgrades on them. I "think" I have finally found the ideal combination now. Have only done 3 games with this setup but have gone 2-1, and the loss was by 1 hit point. Overall with dual firesprays I've gone about 50/50, not as good as I'd like yet, but better than most people expect.
Krassis + Recon + Hull + Seismic + HLC
Kath + Recon + Hull + Seismic + PTL
I've found playing dual firespray only that you need to make every hit point on your ships count. The two hull upgrades give me two more points, and dual recon saves me several hits a game on each ship. Two seismic is good for swarms, as well as finishing off an unfortunate ship that flies into your backside. Finally the offense is still pretty potent as well. HLC was made for Krassis. I couldn't afford one for Kath as well, but by using PTL she can double focus and target lock, so 3 hits is pretty likely which is still a solid attack. She can also go super defensive when needed and do a double focus plus evade.

After looking at this list, I had the following idea...
Kath Scarlett with push the limit, seismic charge, recon specialist, and hull upgrade
Boba Fett with push the limit, seismic charge, recon specialist, and hull upgrade
It weighs in at 99 points, you can target lock/Focus or Focus evade and the bombs could help against swarms. What concerns me is shedding that stress from push the limit. I also miss barrel rolling with expert handling. I have not gotten to fly this list yet but what does everyone think?
I have been running:
Bounty Hunter w/ Recon & Seismic Charge
Bounty Hunter w/ Recon & Seismic Charge
Academy Tie Fighter
Academy Tie Fighter
I much prefer recon specialist to gunner because of the flexibility it provides to both offense and defense. With two focus actions to spend I seem to do consistent damage AND evade more on defense. Under focused fire I walk away with more hit points which allows me to shoot another day. Additionally, the seismics while not always crucial must be considered and usually strip at least 2 points of damage per game.
I am curious about dropping all upgrades and the academy blockers for a third bounty hunter. Can someone give me the breakdown between dual Firespray w/ upgrades and support vs. 3 firesprays?T
Thanks in advance.
Three Firesprays is a no frills, 9 dice a turn attack with 30 HP's to chew through. You move aggressively and attack. Two Firesprays require tactical thought based on upgrades chosen and any support ships.
Three Firesprays is an absolute beast on the table, but does really require much in tactical thought.
i was thinking about this squad...
Bounty Hunter (33)
Bounty Hunter (33)
Omicron + FCS + Gunner + Engine Upgrade (32)
go at 98pts for initiative or add something with this last 2pts. maybe merc copilot on shuttlebus?
another variant...
Bounty Hunter + Gunner (38)
Bounty Hunter + Gunner (38)
Omicron + Vader (24)

I use a PTL Kath in my current "primary" list and find shedding stress no problem. However, I have Engine Upgrade (not Hull or Shield) which maintains my mobility while going 1 or 2 manuevers. With the big base, you still travel plenty far and can be pretty nimble when zipping through tight asteroid or ship placements. And while I love the Recon Specialist, I find when running a large target ship like a tricked out Kath that I need "actionless" crew to protect against blockers (or let me me boost/evade for defense), so I use Gunner. Also gives me a second shot to trigger her ability. I love tossing out that 1 crit result on the first shot to have it negated for the stress, then pound them on the second shot.

Played this build on vassal over the weekend. Having a conga line of triple Firesprays was so much fun that I have 2 more Slave one expansions getting delivered on Friday.

What other ship or ships do you fly with PTL Kath?
After playing more with the 2 BH and Vader Shuttle list, I've got the flow-chart down for the alpha strike;
Set up a gun line with your 3 ships, cause a pile-up for your opponent. Next turn, drop the bombs, fly forward over the mess, shoot them all in the back with your rear arc.
Bid the shuttle a fond fair well, get a crit or two with it before the end, get your BH's around to mop up.
Now, as I'm working on something for just literally 2 Firesprays, probably Krassis & Boba with HLC's and some stuff, I'm trying to imagine how to best approach and engage the enemy.
I'm thinking that it begins by making the asteroid field in the middle as open as you can afford to, so you can fly through it to meet your enemy.
With a lot of builds that favour the non-unique ships, you should basically be able to setup after your opponent has communicated their own starting deployment. So play it evasive and come at them through the rocks? I can't imagine a head-on joust being a good idea.
What's the best approach?
Referencing my earlier post. This is definitely the best dual firespray list I've fielded (where it's dual firesprays only, no support ships).
Not only does it have a winning record at the moment, but when I lose it's usually very close. My earlier builds had more losses, and more bad losses as well.
The extra defense from dual hull upgrades and dual recon specialists was clearly the way to go. And my offense is still strong as well.
The two lists I've had most trouble with are 3 bounty hunters and rebel swarms, specifically BBBAA. The 3 bounty hunters is probably the worst matchup, as with only 2 ships shooting for me it makes it hard to take down a enemy ship right away like with any other list. Plus it's 3 guns shooting at you, and they all have 2 evade so they don't go down super easy. Dual falcon is much easier to beat with my build than 3 bh's.
As for BBAA, I have beaten it once, but overall it's a struggle. A lot of hit points, and a lot of attack dice coming against you. Not to mention all the potential action denial from 5 ships. A tie swarm is more favorable as they have to fly together, whereas the rebel swarm doesn't so they can cut you off everywhere.
Here is something I would like to try.
Kath+deadeye+slave I+advanced torp+cluster missil+recon spec
Scimitar+cluster missiles+proton torps
Jonus+squad leader
Recon spec, adv torps, deadeye, and Jonus could be over kill. Just another word for just enough.
