Mega Alpha Strike (squad idea)

By Cptnhalfbeard, in X-Wing

I was toying with some of the recently announced pilots/upgrades and came up with an idea for a potentially devastating alpha strike. It is kind of dependent on many factors which may be its downfall, but here it is:

Dutch Vander + R5-K6 + Proton Torps - 29

Garven Dreis + R2D6 + PtL + Hull Upgrade+ Proton Torps - 37

Bandit Squadron Pilot + Assault Missiles - 17

Bandit Squadron Pilot + Assault Missiles - 17

The idea is, the Bandits move forward and focus, dutch moves in and TLs, gives a TL to a bandit. Garven TLs and focuses. Garven fires his PT spending the focus and giving it to Dutch. Dutch fires his PT, spending the TL and rolls a defense die for R5K6, if he gets the evade, he gets another TL and gives a TL to the other bandit. Lastly either 1 or both bandits fire their Assault Missiles (depending on the R5K6 roll) and hopefully do boat-tons of damage.

Granted, all of this can crumble if any of the following happen:

-Too many enemy ships at PS7 or more making it hard for the PS6s to TL.

-Any of the ships getting destroyed before getting their payload off

-Flubbed R5K6 roll.

-Not enough targets within range

So with all this in mind, maybe not so much a tourney list, but maybe one for fun? Not a lot of firepower after the alpha strike, but hopefully you've crippled them enough. Potentially 4 missiles with focus... maybe homing missiles instead of assault so you can reroll and focus? I kind of liked the assault hoping the splash damage might take out ships that were just wounded by the PTs.

First off, Don't expect Z-95's in hand till late May, early June, and maybe not tourney legal till July or later. Proxie it for funnies? The dial is not known.

Also, now this is maybe just me, but if i see a lot of assault missiles on the other side, you can not make me stick in formation. I'll still be able to get arcs on ships without being clustered up. The only thing I really see assault missiles doing is bumping Howlrunner down in the meta.

I'd say don't expect the Wave4 stuff before end of July.

Just a one trick pony. After the alpha strike, what's left? Not much power there.

I think there's some nice synergy there, if it is a ways off. While I agree with the poster above that there's not a ton left after the missiles loose, that' stone point. I'd see this list having some trouble with high PS lists who come on too late to TL and then zoom in under the range of your missiles.
