R2 Pilot Custom Card

By Lumberjack Nick, in X-Wing

Hey all, I'm back at it, making some of my custom cards. Here's one that I know has been done before, but I just watched an episode of The Clone Wars where R2 was piloting and it made me want to make a pilot card for him.

You may want to spell check your card...gree move

Add a crew slot. Because it would be awesome. Then increase the cost by 2. That ability is terrifyingly good.

For starters, you left off an "n" in green. (Either that or I missed the rules about gree maneuvers ;) )

Second, that is way too good for those points. Just the recover shield ability makes him identical to a rookie pilot with R2-D2, which costs 25 points, then you add an additional damage mitigation to it. Rookie pilot with the ability to flip crits face down, I'm guessing 28 points...?

Flipping crits down is not unlike R5 plus determination.

With that pilot ability the ship should cost 25 or 26 points. Subject to change due to playtesting.

I like the idea of a crew slot.

yeah,
The idea is great, but the worst thing you can do when making cards is to undercost them!

You should have simply made the ability identical to R2-D2s and costed the card 25pts.
that way It's pretty much legal!

Panic...

In that chase there's little point creating the card in the first place. Adding or changing something is a good idea. Could be a crew or EPT slot. The OP choose to add the effect of R5/determination. If priced correctly that's fine.

A droid pilot ignoring pilot criticals? Sounds good. A droid pilot repairing ship criticals? Sounds good, too. Only the price has to fit.

I don't think you should base pilot ability costs off of cards that do the same, as pilot abilities seem to come cheaper for what they offer(likely due to being non-optional for the pilot skill level.

What software have you made these with? They look brilliant.

I don't think an astromech droid should be able to be as agile and as good at shooting as a biological pilot, otherwise the rebels would've just filled the x-wings with astromechs instead of risking people.
