Question about Target Locks part 2

By Papamambo, in X-Wing

I know I had posted a previous topic about Target Locks and their usefulness. This topic is a bit different though..

The question is as it relates to certain Pilot abilities ie - Biggs, and Captain Kagi specifically (moreso Kagi, as I think Biggs is spelled our pretty well.)

Biggs' ability states that other friendly ships cannot be targetted (at range 1) if they could target him instead.

Kagi's ability is a little less obvious - When an enemy ship acquires a target lock, it must lock onto your ship if able.

So I guess my question is - If I have Kagi in play, and someone were to try and target lock one of my other ships, but Kagi was out of range, would they still be able to TL their intended target? Or does it work just as Biggs ability?

"If able" is the key. If Kagi was not in range 3, but the ship you were trying to TL is then you would get your TL on the intended ship....just like Biggs' ability. If I try to shoot a ship and Biggs is within range 1 of it, but he is not within range 3 of me then I get to shoot the ship I originally was going after.

What if a shuttle with ST-321 tried to lock onto a ship in a squad that had Kagi in it. Would that force the shuttle to always lock onto Kagi, since TL has no range.?

Is the ship able to lock onto Kagi? What does kagi's ability say to do in that situation?

I really think people try to make this game more complicated than it is.

I am just trying to reassure myself here. I would say yes, because the Shuttle would always be able to lock onto Kagi.

Okay, so Kagi.

If Kagi is in Range 1-3 of an enemy ship attempting to perform a standard "Acquire Target Lock" action, they must TL Kagi.
If Kagi is in Range 1-2 of an enemy ship attempting to perform an "R7-T1" action, if they are in his firing arc, they must TL Kagi.
If Kagi is defending against a player using Fire Control Systems, they must TL Kagi.

If Kagi is in Range 1-3 of an enemy ship using FCS and Weapons Engineer, one TL hits the defender, and the other must either be maintained from a previous TL or they must TL Kagi.
If Kagi is on the field against an enemy with "ST-321" attempting to perform a Target Lock of any form, they must TL Kagi.

However note that if ST-321 already has a lock on Kagi, he is no longer able to Target Lock him again... Thus, it's free to target lock whoever he wishes.

Not sure if I'm reading your question right, but Biggs's ability does not prevent an opponent from target locking someone else. It just prevents them from attacking someone else (see the card language "targeted by attacks") and a target lock is not an attack.
