XXX Rated list. :)

By Zoccola, in X-Wing

Ok not really, just 3 Xwings, but the sneak peak of the new xwing pilots have given me some ideas of an elite Xwing list.

Wedge Antilles — X-Wing
Opportunist
R7-T1
Engine Upgrade

Wes Janson — X-Wing
Swarm Tactics

Garven Dreis — X-Wing
R2-D6
Draw Their Fire

The idea is quite simple. Wes Janson fires first. His primary goal is to remove focus and evade tokens off the target. Then Garven fires next, hopefull adding some damage, or causing the final tokens on the target to be spent, but most importantly, spending a focus which then gets dumped on Wedge. Finally Wedge is the sweeper.

The idea with Wedge is to keep the target in his firing arc, and then as an action us R7-T1 to target lock and maybe boost into range band 1. He should be quite dangerous with a focus, target lock, extra attack die vs the target, and -1 agility on their defense.

It comes in at 99 points to insure initiative for firing. 3 Xwings at ps9 SHOULD kill something every turn.

What I am worried about:

1) low ship count. I loose an attack a round, which I am hoping to offset by attacking first and by stripping tokens.

2) requirement for Wes and Garven to fly in RB1 formation and Wedge to be in RB2 even when boosting.

swarm tactics doesn't work like that. if you want them all to fire at PS 9 you have to have it on the PS9 pilot as AND one of the others to chain it. So, wedge and Wes both need it. Wedge pulls up Wes to PS9 then he pulls up Garven.. also, R7-T1 doesn't require you to also have engine upgrade, but without it, it has a limited activation condition. Wasn't sure if you knew

**** I thought Wes was PS9. Just rechecked. Stupid builder had him below Wedge. :)

So there goes that idea. :)

How have you found Wes? I love the character, but his ability has been less than satisfactory thus far in the games we've tested. Regardless, I'm a big fan of high PS rebel lists, and I'd love to hear any batreps you have!

just put veteran instincts on Janson

I have been toying with something like this

my concern in the original list above is that too many points are spent on Wedge, and that Garven would not pull his weight enough in a 3-ship list

Luke makes a solid endgame ship, and forces the opponent to choose between either taking Luke down first and leaving the more offensive ships free to take shots (which essentially makes Luke into a stronger Biggs if they choose this), or to try and kill the big guns first and risk facing Luke in endgame with a weaker squadron.

Still perhaps not ideal, and can be tweaked a bit to your tastes, but with a 3-ship build you need a combination of high PS, offense, and defense, and I just don't think Garven brings enough to the table to justify his inclusion.

How about this

Wes Janson w/ Squad Leader

Luke Skywalker w/ R2-D2 & Draw their Fire

Jek Porkins w/ R5-D8, Opportunist & hull up.

100 pts

Wes can give Porkins the extra action for TL + focus and strips off enemy's focus/evade so opportunist kicks in. Nasty 1-2 punch. Luke offers extra durability all around. Seems like a good mix of offense & defense...

I would try out this

Wedge w/Opportunist

Luke Skywalker w/R2D2, Veteran Instincts & Shield Upgrade

Wes Janson w/ Veteran Instincts

This moves Luke and Wes up to pilot skill 10 ensuring the opportunist comes into play. There's no good option for the opponent on which ship to go after first and you don't need to stay in a tight formation to trigger the higher pilot skills as with Swarm Tactics.
