Wes Janson - After you perform an attack

By HERO, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Quick clarification question:
Wes Janson reads:
After you perform an attack, you may remove 1 focus, evade, or blue target lock token from the defender.

From reading the rulebook on the Combat Phase...
1. Declare Target

2. Roll Attack Dice

3. Modify Attack Dice

4. Roll Defense Dice

5. Modify Defense Dice

6. Compare Results

7. Deal Damage

When exactly does the trigger to remove the focus, evade, or blue target lock come into play?

Currently, I'm assuming it's after the 7. Deal Damage step, but I can see how people can argue it taking place before 4. Roll Defense Dice.

Thanks in advance.

I would assume the same. If it was meant to be at any specific step of the combat phase I think it would have be stated as such instead of the much more lose "perform an attack".

Its after step 7.

You have performed your attack once all steps have been completed.

Thanks!

I suspect that one will cause some confusion, with people thinking they can declare an attack and yank the token off.

But yes, I agree; because it says "after you perform an attack" and not "after you declare the target of your attack" or whatever, his ability only kicks in once all the steps of his attack have resolved, 1-7.

Page 1 of the FAQ gives us errata that formally defines an attack as being all 7 of the steps described for the combat phase.
