The Great Debate #26: Professor Rice vs. William Bain

Regardless that imo I think +1 speed is better than +1 lore, I believe William Bain have more impact on the game.

Please don't bring into account scenarios that "hurt" them such as Professor Rice vs. Yibb-Tstll or William Bain vs. the random ally of Leo/Charlie.

p.s. wow, we're at 26 already?

Gimme Rice, gimme Rice, gimme Rice Rice Rice

But that's because of nostalgia, mostly. I've used Bain to my advantage before, but If you throw down Rice, the flood of extra clues should be all you need to win the game.

My group constantly has a clue-shortage and that is without using them to add more dice-rolls so Professor Rice is like a gift from the heavens. Sure his bonuses are a neat litte addition but those clues really can throw things around in our favor.

Rice most of the time.. at least in our games..

Rice is more useful as an ally at the start of the game where there are fewer gats open while Bain is only more useful for short doom tracks and towards the end of the game as a "just one more turn till i come through the gate and seal it" scenario..

Do locations with Elder Signs count as unstable for the purposes of Prof Rice? On one hand the locations have a red diamond, but on the other hand monsters cannot appear there.

Rice unless the GOO's awakening is imminent and we need some time to better prepare. Or perhaps if we have drawn some of the "two doom token" mythos cards. In which case Bain would be chosen.

Rice is just ludicrously strong. Plus, with more unstable locations in Innsmouth, his value increases.

Professor Rice!!!

People who play all Expansions...and Professor Rice AFTER Innsmouth comes out....you might as well just dump the Clue Box on the table.

Elder Signs do not change a location from unstable to stable.

If I remember correctly the game where I had Professor Rice as an ally was the first one I ran out clue markers. You can't beat that as an ally special power, imho. Removing a doom marker can be nice, but it won't do much if the game is running downhill anyway. The flood of clues, however, might help.

Not to mention that there are plenty of items that remove doom tokens, but Professor Rice's ability is unique

Riiiiice, not beans. Errr. Bain.

Rice, almost every time. Besides the power, I prefer the +1 lore over speed.

I actually enjoy Speed as my favorite stat bonus. That's why I wouldn't mind Bain if I got him.

Where would people fall on a debate of Rice versus Orne?
