Finally got myself a 'proper' gaming mat.

By DarkFather, in X-Wing

Those are some beautiful mats. Maybe I should look into getting one or more of them.

And, here I was all proud of myself for putting together a 4x8 play table today covered in black felt. I had to do something with my time since none of the local stores have Aces in yet.

How and where did you get the second one. Is it s custom map?

I've send you a personal message, since I don't know what the policies here are about putting out shop addresses.

Those mats are two from many offered by a shop, there are several formats to choose from (3x3, 4x3, 5x3, 6x3, 4x4) depending on the graphic shown (not every picture is suitable for 5x3 for example).

If you dont post the place here could you PM me the company, I really like that second one you have there.. 5x3 would be perfect...

the place where those are offered is http://www.miracle-versand.de/Tabletop-Miniaturen/Gelaende-Terrain/Spielmatten/
located in Germany and the site's in german so far (just started, will be available in english some time later), but they are sending europe wide (simple email does the job, to be found here http://www.miracle-versand.de/Impressum/ ); sending to US address might be unattractive due to the costs involved (shipping etc), maybe ok for a larger order.

thanks, those are fairly inexpensive..

I know that www.gripmats.com will soon launch their range of.....grippy mats (surprise). It looks REALKY promising so might be worth waiting a bit if you aren't in an urgent need for a mat. Check out their vids of the mats.

They've also announced in the past week that they can now create a single-piece 36" by 36" mat. Supposedly you can still email them at [email protected] and be invited to join the kickstarter via the pledge manager that's coming in the next week or so. I've got one via the kickstarter but will probably grab a second (for Warhammer Diskwars, etc) given the single-piece announcement.

That is good news indeed! I've held off purchasing any of the other mats I've seen out there for one reason or another. When I discovered Grip Mats, I was dismayed to find that they couldn't do 36x36'. Good to know that that's changed. I may finally get a mat solution that I can be happy with.

As an alternative for the GF9 mats check out Applied Perspective mats: http://www.appliedperspective.com/acrylic/product/3x3-star-field-playmat/

Similar surface, but way way more durable. I have had one for many months and you can't tell it's been used at all, and as I have been testing it for Adam (Applied Perspective's owner) I have abused the crap out of it. We have done unspeakable things. I'm not sure where he gets them made, but it's the best surface I have seen yet.

Grip Mats look very interesting too. I emailed the guy and want to check out a 3x3 one of those too.

Wow those look really busy. How is it playing on them Hexis?

Also waiting for my gripmat and also very excited they can do single piece 36x36. They posted to day that first shipments will go out in april!

Edit: Here's a video of the gripmat with xwing bases

I have design "F", but I would prefer "B" the least busy one. As it's playtest item, I wasn't able to choose the design. The colors are a lot less contrasty on the actual mat, and playing on it is fine. Tokens show up just fine.

A couple example images of design "F":

I actually emailed Eric and this is the reply I got back:

"You can be added to our Pledge Manager - and I would appreciate if you went back to FFG forums and let folks know that the Pledge Manager is going live this week - and anyone who wants to join to simply email: [email protected].

I need you to email me as well so that I may capture your email for the invite list.
