Fleeing the Battle Field

If a ship executes a maneuver that causes any part

of its base to go outside the play area (beyond any

edge), then that ship has fled the battlefield. Unless

specified by a mission overview, ships that flee the

battlefield are immediately destroyed.

Does this mean:

A: That after placing the maneuver template and moving the model to its final position. If any part of the base of the model is outside the play area the model has fled and is destroyed.

or

B: That during the move along the maneuver template if any part of the base leaves the play area before reaching its final position then the model has fled and is destroyed.

The only clue I can find to this in the FAQ is the following.

Q: When a ship executes a maneuver, is the

entire width of the ship considered to be

moving along the maneuver template and

possibly hitting obstacles?

A: No. Only the maneuver template itself and the

final position of the ship are considered when

determining if a ship hit an obstacle.

Ships do not "move along the template", they are picked up from the front of it and placed at the end of it. Although the flavor of movement is obviously that the ship is traveling along that path, mechanically that is not what is happening.

"A" is correct. The final position of the ship is what is considered. Even the maneuver template doesn't count, if the template somehow curves outside the play boundary but the destination is back in play.
