Amberdexterious Ruling

By WorkSlave, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hi,

Ok so Ambidexterious and two weapon fighting state negative reductions for using two weapons when attacking... what about defending though. Can I actively use a sword to parry whilst shooting with my other hand? That seems that both hand are "actively" being used and should therefore be covered by the same rule negatives.

Your thoughts?

as long as your not trying to Steal extra actions, a Parry is a Reaction, so you can do it (once) and still Shoot that can be a Half Action for a Single Shot or a Full Action for a Burst.

IMO, you don't even need ambidextrous for defending with the secondary hand - otherwise, shields wouldn't make much sense for non-ambidextrous characters, would they (Defensive grants +15 parry, secondary hand has a -20 penalty)?

Yep the question isnt can you or can you not do it. The question is as your actively using both hands should a negative be applied.

As I've just said: Using any of the penalties for secondary hand or two hand fighting would make shields useless.

DH Core Rulebook, Page 197, Two Weapon Fighting:

"If you're weilding a melee weapon as one of your two weapons you may make a parry once each round as a Reaction as normal with this weapon...This Weapon Skill test is not an attack, and therefore does not suffer the standard penalty for attacks made using your secondary hand."

Thank you Savage,

It works just like WFRP, parrĂ½ing is a defence, not an attack, all penalties on two-weapons are based on attacking with them, not defending.
So as Savage said, parrying with an off-hand weapon costs you a reaction, but make as WS +0% test, WS +10% if the sword is balanced, +15% if the weapon or shield has the defensive trait.

The Moritat in my party has a Best quality Mono Sword which grants her a +20% on parrying, bonuses do stack.

But the +10 bonus from Best Quality is only added to "tests made to attack" (p. 128), not parrying.

You are absolutely right, I will correct myself during the next game session and flog my self each night before resting and pray to the God Emperor for forgiveness.
