If you had to go with a single ship on a blind 1 v 1 battle...

By R22, in X-Wing

Title says it all.

Knowing nothing about the opponent, what ship would you go with and why? This includes named pilots but not anything further. So no talents, mods, astromechs, secondaries, etc. Just the ship.

Han Solo 1-1 he's pretty much unstoppable.

Either Han or chewie decked out.

So you're asking which ship would win a 1 on 1? This should pretty much be a no brainer. If you accept that point cost assigned ships are close to right then you simply pick the single most expensive ship and that would be Han. The only risk he'll really face is getting knocked down by a critical hit but that can happen to just about anyone.

Without upgrades the only ship that I believe could really even challenge a named YT-1300 is the Firespray. It's a little more agile but it also doesn't have the hull/shield that the named YT-1300s do and it is also missing the 360 fire arc. The number of hits it can take and its ability to dish out damage no matter the attackers angle are what set the Falcon ahead of everything else.

Perhaps you should do Small Base ships only

In which case i'd choose Vader…good survivability, fair attack with TF + F…I think he'd do well

Is there a point restriction? If I d to pick one ship only, it would be Horton with twin torps, ion cannon and an R5 unit

No Upgrades

Academy TIE.

I like to live dangerously.

What point cost?

No Upgrades

^This is a terrible idea. Among other things, it makes the Lamda and HWK nigh unplayable, and severely nerfs just about everything.

Han, hands down

Kath Scarlet or Boba Fett.. either way Firespray.

Well. I agree with others. Han Solo in the YT-1300.

Is the question what single ship, without the use of upgrades, you'd create a 100 point squad out of? If so, the X wing is the most balanced ship in the game.

Your question is a bit silly as you only have Han and Bobba as any real option.

It's hardly blind now is it.

I think a blind pick of all small based named pilots could be an interesting idea for a small tourney.

Setup you could have a deck of pilot cards per table and have both people draw at random and have to play with who you draw out.

Could be a fun little tourney to run with a group of mates

Carnor Jax, no question.

What point cost?

No Upgrades

This isn't my idea. It's the OP's guidelines.

TIE Advanced... I like to lose with style.

If anything goes, Han + lotsa lotsa stuff

If small ships only, Luke R2D2 engine upgrade PTL.

If small ships imperial, Soontir PTL Stealth Hull Royal

Tycho. One of my favourite ships with one of my favourite pilots. Really hard to get a good hit on an A-wing when flown well.

So let's adjust.

You get one ship in each category:

30pts

40pts

50pts

Any upgrades you want.

I understood it as "what fighter pilot and ship would you pick for a duel, assuming upgrades would then be used to match points". And by "fighter" I mean "small-based ship capable of performing a Koiogran".

To that I say: Turr Phennir. Should upgrades be available, my first choice is Veteran Instincts, followed by Shield Upgrade.

Following Bohrdumb's guidlines:

30: TIE Interceptor + Turr Phennir + Veteran Instincts + Shield Upgrade (30)

40: B-Wing + Ibtisam + Elusiveness + Sensor Jammer + Autoblaster (39)

50: Firespray-31 + Boba Fett + Expert Handling + Intelligence Agent + Stealth Device + Proton Bombs (49)

Academy TIE.

I like to live dangerously.

No Shields. All Guts.

So let's adjust.

You get one ship in each category:

30pts

40pts

50pts

Any upgrades you want.

So what are these categories? You list points but don't say if those are the mins or the maxes. If you want to make categories I'd say you should go with the following:

1. Ship 25 points or less

2. Ship 33 points or less

3. Ship 41 points or less (no named YTs, very few upgraded Firespray)

4. Ship over 41 points.

Those first two levels are specifically chosen for the 3 and 4 ship builds that could come from combining various suggestions. I think the most competitive category would be ship 33 points or less.
