Advice for beginners

By Shanester40, in X-Wing

Bumping this thread. It really should be stickied to the top so new players can consult this first before asking questions. Several of the posts in here have really excellent information.

I have found for the most part advice on here to be essential for new players, and a showcase for some beautiful paint jobs.

I am a man of my word. My wife and I have play tested on it and the table worked fine. You can find it here:

http://www.amazon.com/Office-Star-Products-Folding-36-Inch/dp/B0012H2L3E/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

It is sturdy but also light weight enough that you simply fold the legs back down and store it wherever you want. It also would make a good table for picnics, Thanksgiving or anything else you can use.

I definitely recommend the table.

I missed that reply. When I looked I didn't see any that were the 36" square but that looks pretty good and isn't priced too badly. The corner don't look quite square but if it's the exact right size it should be an amazing battle top; no arguments if you fly off the edge as you literally fly off the edge.

My wife and I have played several games on it at this point. The best gaming table you can buy for that kind of money for this game IMO. We have had zero problems with it.

hey anothe beginer hear what would you use to counter y-wings?

A Y-Wing is a tough workhorse but without a Turret it is pretty easy to fly circles around with most Imperial ships. Use your superior dial with your Barrel Roll/Boost actions to stay out of their arc and show that workhorse what the Empire's whip feels like.

When it does have a turret, range 3 is a safe place to snipe from since the Turrets can only reach out and touch you in range 1-2. Standard Hit-and-Run Interceptor tactics apply here much like above. Sometimes giving up a shot for a turn or two in order to avoid arc/fire is better than being able to shoot at them, but also recieving fire in return. Move away, and then come back in and hit them again when it most advantagous for you.

I'm getting all adventurous now and want to paint all the engines exhausts on my ships but want to make sure I get the right colours. There was a post on here with a guide but I can not for the life of me find it.

Also does anyone have any recommended paints, I tend to stick to GW, but if someone can recommend specific colours that would help.

I say order one of each ship and see what you like. This is what I did and I found the ships that are like and are not. Also your going to want upgrade cards to try out so having one of each ship does that for you.

Cheaper opinion is to pick one side and buy all ships for it,

Still cheaper is XXBB or Two boxes of Aces.

Or buy 3 core sets it gives you enough for a swarm list, dice and if you don't like one side sell the ships for the 1 imp aces or 2 b-wings.
