Imperial Aces and mission 7: Cutting the Cord

By Black Knight Leader, in X-Wing

I am pretty excited to have my Imperial Aces in hand. I couldn't believe how many sets of these they had at the store, more than any boaster set that is for sure.

One thing I am exited about is with the Mission 7 rules. With this mission I can now have a TIE Interceptor with a strength 7 laser.

Interceptor is value 3 + 1 if at range one new value is 4 + 1 if using expose or opportunist, new value is 5 + 2 if your Interceptor is the SFS prototype and is using the boast given to it by the base that grants a + 2 primary attack and + 1 agility, total value is 7!!!

I have a question though. Can the TIE Interceptor that is a prototype also be upgraded with Royal Guard Interceptor? Normal rules would say no but this is a special mission upgrade from the get go.

Also would it be legal to upgrade the prototype at all?

I have never been to a tornament, do they use these special missions like "Cutting the Cord" in the compitition or is it straight forward death match?

I know a TIE Phantom would be even more dangerious if it where a prototype my question is can you have the gunner placed aboard the Phantom that is also a prototype and ignore the gunners ability for shooting? I am asking this because one base in this mission grants the ability to attack twice in one turn. If I could ignore using the gunner in the first volly and then use them if I missed with at least one dice in the 2nd volly, I could have then have 3 vollies.

Tournaments are 100 point deathmatches.

Gunner says 'may' so you can choose whether it activates each time.

Cool, know all I need to know is if I can have a prototype royal guard TIE Interceptor.

Nope, any rules from scenarios are not valid in a tournament. Also, from what I've heard, everything new from aces isn't tourney valid, won't be for a few weeks or so.

I want to play Cutting the Cord with a TIE Phantom or Defender

I know it cant be used in a tournament I just want to know if in that scenario I can have a "Prototype Royal Guard TIE Interceptor"?

I am of the opinion that you can use the Royal Guard TIE title card because it isn't a unique title. You wouldn't be able to use the Slave-I, ST-321 or as far as I can tell any unique pilots.

Agreed. The title card is not a unique title, so it can be used in the scenario.

I've just read the scenario (which looks totally cool) and I don't see any limitations on the prototype except that it must be a non-unique ship. I can certainly see how that should extend to unique titles as well, but other than that there don't seem to be any limitations on kind of ship or upgrades you can put on it. Is that right? I'm kinda interested in a prototype firespray.

Firespray was my first thought also. Just give it a couple survivability upgrades and let it go.

It depends if they count big ships as fighters. In universe their is no way it would be a fighter LOL

I just thought of something scary. An Imperial Shuttle with the mod that allows all manuvers to be green lol

Hmmmmm a galactic translucent manatee with some cloaking goodness added in... oh myyyy

Yeah, I thought the same. Stationary as a green maneuver. Add in the +2 attack dice and attack twice mods for 10 attack dice a round.

Honestly, all it says is that the ship must be unique, and nothing about titles or upgrades. IMHO by the literal reading of the rules I see nothing that says you cannot use unique titles or upgrades. A Firespray with HLC might be hella choice...

Yeah, that is why I said I could see how it should extend to titles as well, but strictly speaking it doesn't say that. But if someone is playing a scenario like this then they should be making even more effort to adhere to the spirit of the rules and it seems pretty clear that unique titles would fall under the same category.

Which will give the Rebel player more incentive to attack the stationary and relatively weak (2 agility) facilities which provide those super-buffs, rather than squaring off against the elephant in the room. I think this will be a very interesting scenario, whether the prototype is selected as a high-agility, rather fragile ship, or a tanky but lumbering behemoth.

What I think is crucial here is the setup. As Imperial, you place asteroids and know where specific facilities are. As Rebel, you get to mess with the placement (without knowing which buffs are where) AND pick which edge to start from. This is countered by the Imperial player having a much larger area to set up in. Then I think it becomes a race between revealing and destroying facilities (by direct attack or deploying Operatives) or facing off against a monster.

It seems they have put more thought into this scenario than any other officially released before, and I'm really looking forward to playing it. I hope this signals the quality of future releases in this category.

I agree, I think this mission looks to be one of the better designed so far. I've opted for a Prototype Royal Guard TIE with shields and a stealth device, but I was seriously considering using a tooled-up shuttle.

Try it both ways, and let us know how each turned out!

I don't get to play as often as I'd like, so I live vicariously for the reports I read here as much as anything else. Above all, have fun and Fly Casual!
