Firelands question

By MJadams, in Talisman Rules Questions

When drawing the Ifrit Sultana card, one is instructed at the start of one's turn to draw, and possibly burn, a card. Is this just for the next draw of each player or for the rest of the game?

Rather than pull my box out and dig through the massive stack of cards...what exactly does the card say? What kind of encounter is it?

The "Ifrit Sultana" is an Enemy-Elemental. Strength/Craft 8. Card Reads: "The beautiful & terrifying Ifrit Sultana has claimed this world as her plaything. At the start of his turn each character must draw the top card of the Adventure deck. (would this be Adventure Cards only, what of City or Highland Cards?) If the card us "fireproof", place it back on top of the deck, otherwise, burn it. She will remain here until later. " Perhaps this burning of cards is continual until she is defeated???? If you draw a card and it is burnt, can you draw a replacement or is that your turn?

Way I am reading it, you draw (and check for burning) at the start of your turn, before you even roll to move. You would then roll, move and encounter the space/token/character as normal.

As for which deck to draw from, it would be from whichever area you are located, if in the Dungeon check and burn a dungeon card.

I also played this tonite the 1st time. How about this, the 1st character loses battle, leaves the card in play, the next player lands on it, do they add ANOTHER fire token on the same square? As far as the other question I interpret it that it keeps burning cards every time it is encountered. But what is the effect or danger of more than 1 fire token, more than 1 loss of life?

The Ifrit Sultana is a Noble Ifrit Card. Have a look at the Rulesheet, page 3:

Some Enemy Adventure Cards included in The Firelands expansion have ongoing effects that are in play until the Enemy is defeated. These Noble Ifrit cards are identified by their distinctive colour.

Ifrit Sultana

Strength/Craft: 8

The beautiful and terrifying Ifrit Sultana has claimed this world as her plaything. At the start of his turn each character must draw the top card of the Adventure deck. If the card is Fireproof, place it back on top of the deck, otherwise, burn it. She will remain here until killed.

Since it is an "ongoing effect", because the Sultana is a Noble Ifrit, each character must follow the instructions at the start of his turn, no matter where he is on the board. This continues until the Sultana is killed or removed from the board in another way.

Of course this activity is some kind of upkeep. It is done before any other character actions, so after doing this you take your turn as normal. Don't forget that Fireproof cards are not burnt, so if you draw one of them when resolving the Sultana effect, the card is placed back on top of the deck.

Abilities and effects that apply to Adventure cards apply to Dungeon/Highland/City cards when in the respective Region. No place is safe from the Ifrit Sultana ongoing effect.

Are you asking a question about the Ifrit Invader?

The rules limit Fireland tokens to 1 per space, so you can't place another token if there's already one in the space. The only exception to this is when the Spreading Flames Ending has been revealed. The limit is not applied anymore and the Ending says that you lose 1 life per Fireland token on the space.

I don't remember if it was the same card or not, it was however, stated to place a token on the space, and burn cards, I figured cards would continue to burn but I didn't see a rule on 1 token per space limit.

Perhaps it's the Ifrit Sultan the one you are speaking of.

A character in the same Region as the Ifrit Sultan at the start of his turn must either place 1 fireland token on his space or burn 1 of his cards. When the Ifrit Sultan is defeated remove all fireland tokens from this Region. He will remain here until killed.

He has an ongoing effect just like the Sultana, but you must either place 1 fireland token on your space or burn 1 of your cards. If there is already one token on your space, no token can be placed and your only option is to burn 1 of your cards. If you don't have cards to burn or cannot burn them (e.g. they are all Fireproof), then nothing happens.

Not sure the name, but it was: place a fire token, and burn cards in the adventure deck...game is all packed up now, spent extra time rearranging the set, takes 3 large Talisman boxes, and using a small expansion box for the mini's.

Thanks to all for the input. My understanding now is that until this enemy is defeated a person must "burn" the top card before they take their normal turn. I will go with this. I did see the rule about 1 fireland token per space. Will be in contact again if I have more questions.
