Armored Hull YT-1300 Custom

By Rob Jedi, in X-Wing

If they don't allow this thing at tournaments, it's a crime against mankind.

You're not wrong, but I've seen some people throw some serious hissy fits over mods that change absolutely nothing but the model. Some people will do whatever they can to win, even if it means throwing a tantrum and getting away from actually having fun with the hobby.

I was wondering, since I haven't been around here in a while. That OTHER YT variant. It's what? A 2200 or 1150 or something?

I haven't looked through a lot of the Star Wars books in a very long time. That said, I have a first-born daughter I'm willing to trade for someone who can make a YT-2000/Otana.

I play Imps almost exclusively, but I fell in love with that YT-2000 when I first saw it come onto the full-motion video cutscenes in XW:A.

What, no LED's? ;)

Splendid job!

This is really some stunning work.

I would love to own one of these and would definitely buy one if FFG put out some kind of variant, even though i hardly use my YT. I'd be worried they would make it a tournament prize though and thus make it essentially unobtainable :T

The Otana is out there if you want to paint it. You can have it printed at shapeways.

Some of the expert modelers on the forums also take commission work. I mainly lurk on the forums just to see the amazing work all these guys are doing to their ships.

There is incredible work on just this thread alone! Rob Jedi's work is top notch and I am glad he has switched to flickr so I can see all the great pics.

Sweet mod bros....What is the grey ship that looks like an outer rim freighter ?

Just spent like an hour or so replacing the old links on this thread from photobucket which keeps running out of bandwidth with flickr ones so thought I'd post some more finished photos as well on my space mat.

Lol now I have seen everything ; I am nott the creator , just an admirer....I just want to know about the grey one in the background...

Indeed something nice. I also want to know that

Very nicely done sir. I wish I had to courage to chop up my Falcon but it also dawned on me that 3 of the 4 pilots for the ship are actually flying the Flacon anyway =p Also doesn't help that I've been sticking with Imperials.

I did find a pic of a scan from a book detailing the different configurations of YT-1300s including one that you seldom see, the cockpit being on the other side of the ship altogether. Usually conversions take it off and put it in the middle.

First off I have to say that I'm flabbergasted at the quality of this conversion. Kudos to you Rob Jedi.

As someone who loves running YT-1300's I'd love to be able to make them look different but one thing has always stopped me. I have absolutely no idea how to do the positive detailing on the scratchbuilt plasticard panels.

I can grasp the idea of scraping panel lines - I'd call this negative detailing as you are taking material away. But for want of a better phrase the positive detailing - adding material - you do is simply awesome! In particular the perfectly done external cabling is where I struggle to know how you do it?

Do you have any advice?

It's just thin Evergreen plastic rod bent to fit the surface and then cut to fit. As well as bits of plastic sheet cut into small rectangles and glued on to break up the flatness.

Mr. Robjedi: outstanding work! Are planning to post it on your blog?

The new parts should help though, that Japanese company is really inexpensive, dropped just under 20 bucks for parts there.. should get me engine parts and a part to extend the cockpit section and a few bits to work on the hull.

Oneway, what company are you talking about? are they doing extra details for the YT-1300?

Beautiful work! All those tiny "greeble" details really bring it to life. I shudder at the idea of chopping up a proper FFG Falcon myself, but it looks like you've really got the skills to justify it. :)

Jaw droppingly amazing work. I love custom ships and am now incredibly jealous!

Very well done.

I have been working on a similar conversion, scouring the web I have found yours is the only other one.

I like how you built onto the original center piece, I have cut mine out entirely .

I try to reuse bits I cut off, after seeing yours I feel scratch building the little bits would be better.

Cheers.

Simply amazing work! Thanks for sharing.

This may seem like pointless repetition but that is one awesome conversion, love the detail on the panels and great paint job.

You don't see allot of conversions with the pre-painted models but I got to say impressive.

Stunning work, thank you so much for sharing!

Very nice work, Rob!

Hey, I was just wondering, how did you add the design on the custom bridge section? I've used green stuff before, but it looks like you used more plasticard. It looks fantastic, so I'm curious!
