Adventures in the Corellian Sector

By strongarm85, in Game Masters

My group finished up Beyond the Rim, as a follow up they rescued the surviving crew Members of the Sal Nallor. They've rescued Cortalla and her assistants, but Captain Harsol died fighting the Imperials after the PCs daring escape.

Now they are tasked with locating a new Transponder for the "Blockade Bandait" which has been renamed the "Trasheap Phoenix" due to my poetic licence in describing how it rose triumphantly from a heap of refuse.

The party decided the best course of action was to attempt to acquire a new one from Corellia.

On the way into the system they ran the Corellian Shuffle and record time, (19 turns).

Afterwards they went hunting around the Blue Sector looking for a Transponder when they met a disgruntled CEC employee at an underground bar, called the Elusive Rancor, who was down on his luck and looking to make some money. He arranged for the meet the party at a CEC Warehouse district in three days.

While at the Elusive Rancor they took part in betting on the Underground fighting ring. The Bounty Hunter Gadgeteer/Outlaw Tech in the group decided to take part in the arena fighting himself and volunteered for the show match. The show match paired him up against a Wrix in a 1 on 1 fight. The Bounty Hunter soon found that his Blaster Pistol was no match for the Wrix's thick hide and took to using his Jetpack to keep his distance from the Wrix. However the Wrix was able to grab him by the Bounty Hunter by the Ankle to prevent him from getting away.

To try to hold back the Wrix, the Bounty Hunter made used a Glomp Grenade on the creature. The Goo got inside of of the Wrix's nose and Mouth, blocking it's airways when it hardened, causing it to release the bounty hunter as it tried in vein to clear it's airways. Eventually it suffocated and our Bounty Hunter emerged victorious.

While waiting for the meeting to take place, the Bothan FSE/Scout tried unsucessfully to infiltrate the CEC warehouse security by gaining a job. Because he tried, (unsuccessfully) to disguise himself as a human in the process, he attracted the attention of Corsec. Corsec was able to identify him and he was arrested and the Empire was contacted in regards to a Bounty that had been placed on him.

With the help of a skilled Toydarian Slicer, the Bounty Hunter was able infiltrate the Corsec tower, rescue the the captured Bothan, and escape. In the process they were able to access the communications log and learn that the Bounty had been placed on Bothan by Imperial Inquisitors.

Sounds like an awesome adventure. One question though. How did you do the splitting of the party. Was it simply a case of running the two events side by side? or did you have some players sit out for a time? Or was it simply different sessions with different people?

I keep scenes brief and jump back and forth.

I'll put a Corsec Officer (Nemesis) in the room with the Bothan FSE, doing an interrogation. I spend at most 2 minutes between each group of PCs, but sometimes as little as 30 seconds to minute to explain what they are doing at the moment and resolve a skill check if necessary. The simple plan is getting across the idea that this is all happening at once.

If memory serves, I even went so far as to go take initiative, even though Combat had not officially started, and let players pick slots, just like they were in Combat, with Corsec officers taking turns as well, trying to stop the PCs.

So, here is what happened since the last week.

The day of the exchange finally happened, CorSec had stepped up their security significantly in the warehouse district where the exchange was to take place, due to he actions of the PCs previously. The Bounty Hunter in the group took up a point position on the roof an adjacent warehouse while the Toydarian Slicer and the Bothan FSE went to make the exchange. With skillful maneuvering on the part of the Bounty Hunter, and the Toydarian Successfully slicing the Cam-droids to replay the same images on a loop (without them in it) they managed to reach the drop point undetected.

Their contact, a disgruntled CEC employee was not so lucky. Without knowing who their contact was meeting with, CorSec made their move as the exchange was taking place, attempting to arrest all present of suspicion of Piracy. Officers surrounded the building in Flash Speeders with mounted guns while a troop transport parked over the roof. A full Squad of Tactical Police Officers repelled down to the roof the transport above.

Attempting to flee, the disgruntled CEC employee attempted to flee was shot by a stun rifle and captured by CorSec. While the Bothan and the Toydarian searched for a place to hide, the Bounty Hunter, who had a Jetpack and whose armor had has a Optical Camoflauge managed to board shuttle without being noticed by the Tactical officers on the roof of the building as they were attempting to cut their way in through the roof. The Bounty Hunter took control of the shuttle, capturing the pilot and turning the ships guns on the unsuspecting CorSec Tactical officers below with devastating effect.

With a way to the roof new clear, the Toydarian and the Slicer escaped to the shuttle, but were forced to leave the transponder behind in the warehouse for the time being since the Corsec officers on the ground still were moving in to the building. Once they were all on board the transport, the Slicer sent an all clear signal back to CorSec's headquarters and began jamming their transmissions.

Little did they know that a Imperial Inquisitors, tipped off at their presence in Coronet City from the previous adventure were also on the scene.

The Transport was hovering between buildings so that the Bothan FSE could reach out with the force and move the Transponder to their hijacked ship. Seizing the opportunity, the ship was boarded by Imperial Inquisitor Ventic Tar.

Drawing on his fear, and the Dark Side of the Force, the Bothan attempted to throw the Inquisitor from the ship using the force, however he was unprepared for Ventic Tar's Athleticism and force enhanced strength. Tar held on to the edge of the hatch and Maintained his footing with a test of brute strength, however Tar also rolled tons of threat and lost his Lightsaber.

Joined by the Bounty Hunter in the main hold, a fight broke out between an Unarmed Ventic Tar vs the Force Using Bothan and the well outfitted Bounty Hunter.

Tar attacked the Bounty Hunter using his force enhanced fist, denting the Bounty Hunter's armor and breaking bones. The Bothan and the Bounty Hunter worked together move Ventic Tar across the hold to and to allow the Bounty Hunter the opportunities to shoot him with his heavily modified X-30 Lancer. Eventually Tar succumbed to his wounds and fell from the Transport, but survived the fall. Before they could finish Ventic Tar off with the Transports weapons, an unseen force user lifted Tar's body with the force and moved the injured inquisitor out of their line of fire.

Meanwhile the Toydarian Smuggler was carrying out a Massacre, butchering CorSec officers who lacked the firepower to bring down their transport. Routed, the remaining CorSec officers were fled the scene, allowing the crew to finally get the Transponder they were searching for. The Bothan FSE also recovered Ventic Tar's Lightsaber from where dropped previously, giving him access to his long sought after weapon.

Wanting to flee the Planet quickly, they moved to ditch the stolen transport and get back to the spaceport where their ship waited. The Slicer found a large entrance to the Coronet City sewer system were they could safely dock the ship, and an expedient route through to sewer system which they could use to reach the Spaceport quickly. Leaving their stolen transport behind, they ran more than a mile through the sewers on foot before reaching a large open chamber. They seemed home free, but as they reached the center of the Chamber they heard a loud Roar coming from deeper in the room ahead of them. They had stumbled upon an "Elusive Rancor" living in the sewer systems of Coronet City.

Exhausted from their earlier fight with Corsec, and their long run through the sewers, the group now finds that a monstrous Rancor stands between them and escape.
