First list

By Vissah, in X-Wing

Hello everyone,

I just started playing X-Wing cause my mates got me into it and it is a really nice break from the Warhammer scene that is getting a bit out of control.

First I want to say, I love this game. It is simple to learn but to master it takes a lot of skill and that is why I been lurking on this forum and decided it is time for some advice.

I really like the look of the Rebels that is why I went for them and when I seen the 4x X-Wing list with Luke in a Worlds baterp I was sold cause to me it looked really cool.

I played one game, my first game, with this build and I won and I flew it pretty good is what my mate said so I am happy with that but I am also looking at another build.

I am also getting ready for a Store Championship in two weeks that is why I am trying stuff out but I only got 4 X-Wings and I want to keep going with it so I can get really good at flying it.

I am looking at a Wedge, Biggs with 2 Rookies build and I want some advice for that one. I really like Wedge cause he is just an Ace like there is no other in an X-Wing :-D

What are the best upgrades to give in a Wedge, Biggs build and why is what I want to know.

So all advice is welcome :-D

Thanx.

Swarm Tactics, or Push the Limit and R2 astromech

Swarm tactics to buff one of the rookies or biggs to ps9 so you have 2 ships most likely shooting before the enemy.

Push the Limit is great on him letting focus target lock every turn and with the R2 unit to help clear that stress.

On Biggs R2-F2 is popular as well paired with a stealth device. But that is a lot of points to sink in a ship that will most likely die, albeit deferring his death isn't a bad thing.

I find Swarm Tactics on Wedge to be useful to get one of my other ships firing before Wedge to draw off the focus/evade token and then have Wedge devastate the same target. Just know that Wedge will be the #1 target for your opponent when Biggs cannot take the heat off Wedge.

I might put Stealth Device (SD) on Biggs but don't spend any more points on him than that. His purpose is to die, and any points on him are destined to be lost. But SD is a gambling upgrade anyway and it if happens to extend Biggs life a round or two, it was probably worth it. But any more points than that are just a waste.

The key to deciding what upgrades to use is that you make the good even better, but don't waste points improving the mediocre. IOW, it's ok to buff Wedge's offense, but don't waste the points trying to make him more survivable.

The other consideration is balanced squad cost. If you have one ship with 50 points spent on it, which ship do you think the foe will focus on first? So try to spread the upgrades to make it harder for the foe to identify the priority target. Your list needs to be able to survive the loss of any one ship on the list. If your list's strategy dissolves when "Joe" is destroyed first, your squad is bad to start with.

Thanx for the advice.

I was thinking of Wedge without R2 astromech and Biggs with R2F2.

That Luke build works really good so I know I got one build to take to a tournament button I really like Wedge for some reason.

I would go with this build, I think it pretty balance and spreads the points well.

Wedge - R5-K6 - Proton Torps - Swarm Tactics - 37 points

Biggs - R2-F2 - 28 points

Luke - R2-D2 - Expert Handling - 34 points

99 points total.

Wedge is a pure damage platform, with K5-K6 allowing him to maintain target locks on anything he doesn't kill provided you roll an evade on the defense dice. Keep Biggs close to him in order to avoid Wedge taking alot damage, with Biggs using R2-F2 to help keep him alive. Luke is built as a tank as well, so keep him close to the others or send him out to draw fire on his own. If you have Swarm Tactics use it to buff Biggs up to PS 9 so him and Wedge can nuke things before they get a shot at them.

I would say also, using Marksmenship with Wedge as a replacement for Swarm Tactics if you don't have it is going to be your best option. Of course, one I like to use is Squad Leader mainly because it let's Wedge give Biggs a second action. So he gets one action to use R2-F2 and another action to take a focus token. This helps Biggs survive longer, but that is provided you have the cards for them.

How about Wedge with Push the Limit and an R2 Astromech?

Does that mean I can use a target lock and use a focus?
