Ace Pilots Limited???

By Bayard91, in X-Wing

So I was just informed at my FLGS that the Imperial Ace Pilots are a limited run...

Is this true or was he just missimformed and meant to say that Fantasy Flight only made half of what was meant to be made for the initial release?

My FLGS only got two boxes in, one of which was a pre-order, and the other was sold while I was teaching a group how to play of coarse...

I've been waiting months. Please tell me that I will still be able to get a couple sets.

They have not done this in the past.

He may be referring to the fact that his store was limited on the number of boxes he could purchase due to distributor constraints and making sure that every store got some instead of one or two stores getting all the candy and all the rest of the kids got none.

I was at FFG yesterday and they had roughly a frak-ton of these in stock. Literal piles of them.

Are you TRYING to make me hate you? :P

I chose to do a movie night last night rather than go play X-wing at the local shop. Bad move. For one, it was a horrible movie. But more importantly, they got Aces in... 36 packs. 32 allocated to preorders. The other 4 sold in like 2 minutes.

Ah well. Gives me a good excuse to go hunting other stores in the local area :) If you're having a hard time finding them locally, Barnes and Noble is a very good option - lots of players don't realize they carry them, and frequently with very good stock.

Okay good... That's what I figured was the case.

Figured that if it were a limited run, FFG would have made us clearly aware of it.

Thank you everyone!

where are you guys at? our LGS hasn't seen any yet and doesnt expect till the 17th.

Heh oops, sorry. I honestly, no joking forget sometimes, living ten minutes from the Game Center and HQ for FFG, that a lot of stores get very limited amounts of this stuff. FWIW, it certainly looks as though part of the delay in Aces' release is that they wanted to make sure they printed a TON of them. So I would be surprised if stores didn't manage to get a pretty steady intake of these in stock.

Honestly, I think they've learned their lesson from Wave 2, though it wouldn't be too surprising that the initial preorders they got made them increase production.

Which was what delayed everything ¬_¬

As a matter of policy and IMO good business. FFG doesn't have any thing like a limited run, they've made it quite clear that they'll keep making stuff for as long as the line lasts.

So they'll never stop making X-Wings and Tie Fighters when stock runs low, and they won't ever produce a limited supply of something.

We'll see - when I found out they'd sold out at that sore they checked, and the distributor is reporting sold out as well. Maybe more coming their way, but the initial shipments at least seem to have vanished fast from several levels of the supply chain.

That's crazy. I don't pretend to know what the deal is there. I just saw that the game center had them in the new releases, had them over by the register, had them filling several shelves over in the X-wing stuff, and had one or two massive displays of them stacked high on two counters by the windows. So my first thought was "welp, apparently they figured out their supply issues."

Perhaps not.

I'll be curious to stick my head in there tonight and see if their inventory took a noticeable dip or not.

Well keep in mind there's what FFG does and what the distributor does. FFG may have produced a ton of them, but that doesn't mean every distributor is able to get stock to the stores. The event center has the advantage of being able to skip the middle man, literally.

I expect that FFG claims a large share of the stock for themselves for shows, events, etc. I know that GenCon had rack upon rack of things I hadn't seen in a local store for months.

Which makes sense, really. If they're going to bother with a show (or having their own game center) it needs to have stock available.

If they're going to bother with a show (or having their own game center) it needs to have stock available.

It does. But the Event Center doesn't seem to get special privileges when it comes to stock either. Back during the major shortages of wave 2 and 3, the FFG event center didn't have anything in stock either.

Well, there's some point where out is just out no matter how much you prioritize :)

But it's hard to think that the disparity is solely due to choices in ordering. As I said above, one of the main X-wing stores here had 32 preorders for Aces, and ordered 36 total. I didn't ask if there was a cap, but that doesn't seem like a good choice for shelf stock to me. And it is out at the distributor, so even if they'd ordered more...

<shrug> CW's description of "more boxes than they knew what to do with" just doesn't seem to jive with the distributor-limited counts that the rest of the world is reporting unless there's some preference going on there.

living in germany got my 4 boxes of aces in the flagship store here !! ^^

Maybe FFG once again simply didn't make as many as were needed...

I think it is just perhaps to get everyones boxes out, we're looking at shortages. In my neck of the woods, we had pre ordered 20, are getting 8 and of those 8, 5 are already set aside. So this isn't localized.

This is my impression, honestly. The quality they make them at simply can't be produced fast enough to keep up with demand.

Which is unfortunate, but if I have to choose between scrambling for beautiful ships or putting WizKids-level junk on the table... well, there are at least 4 Barnes and Noble within driving distance...

And lots more closer than the nearest regional! :D

My 4 I ordered from Miniature Market shipped out today. So I'll have mine Monday.

Back in wave 3, my local store didn't order even close to enough HWKs to match pre-orders, and was a few Lambdas short (I my pre-ordered Lambda, but had to wait a few months for the HWK's). I hope the situation doesn't repeat itself here.

Popping in there later tonight; I'll be curious to see if the supply I saw yesterday was decimated or not. I know part of the reason they rushed to put a ton out is that tomorrow they're doing a store championship in the game center and that'll be an opportunity to sell a BUNCH of them, I would imagine, to their target audience.

But maybe if I get there tonight and they've still got stacks and stacks of them, I'll put up a photo of myself rolling around on them naked for proof. :D

Shortly before being tossed out by security and asked never to return. :(

But that would be worth it.
