1st ever tourney and a list type thing

By KnightHammer, in X-Wing

Hi all

Long time lurker, first time poster lol, I have a tourney in a weeks time and was hoping to get opinions on my list im thinking of taking

Darth Vader

Swarm Tactics

Assault Missiles

Captain Jonus

Assault Missiles

Dead Eye

Major Rymer

Assault Missiles

Concussion Missiles

Dead Eye

Im hoping to go slow on the first turn and speed it on turn 2 and fire off the assault missiles to try to do as much damage as I can, im thinking with the Deadeye I should be able to combine that with a target lock so I can fire off using a focus and getting rerolls from the lock and Jonus, I should be able to outclass most lists in the combat phase do to my very high PS

Anyone that knows what they are doing will go after one ship and then pick a part the rest of them. In that list, I would shoot everything I had at Vader and then work on Rhymer after that.

im thinking with the Deadeye I should be able to combine that with a target lock so I can fire off using a focus

- Rhymer and Jonus have good PS. ST on Vader seems like a waste.

- Rhymer is very expensive. How do you intend to use his ability? Shoot concussion at range 1? Consider cluster instead.

- Concussion is for shooting with TL while having a focus to modify dice. If you want to shoot via deadeye, a proton torpedo is better.

- You assume to get TL and focus over two rounds to shoot the missiles. I fully expect the target(s) to be at range 1 at that time.

- If you have focus and TL with Rhymer, consider shooting with the TL instead of deadeye. Jonus supplies rerolls.

- If you have focus and TL with Jonus, deadeye simply wastes one point.

IMPORTANT: You only get to re-roll dice once.

If you have Focus + TL with Jonus in range and use Determination to spend the Focus to fire then your TL is pretty much USELESS as you would reroll the dice using the ability of Jonus. You want to spend the TL to fire normally and then you can use Jonus to re-roll the blanks and spend the focus to convert the [eye] results.

Swarm Tactics on Vader is often a waste here only being useful against a few squads. Dropping all the Pilot skills these ships have and putting Veteran Instincts on both bomber would accomplish nearly the same and give you two points for a Seismic Charge.

Many thanks for the replies

Hmm back to the drawing board then

What about

Jonus + Seismic

Rymer + Seismic + Advance Protons

Bounty Hunter

which should leave me with 9 points to buy 2 more torps/missiles

I really want to use Jonus and Rymer, problem is what to add in also is what im having, I have 2 Interceptors, 1 Advanced, 4 TIES, and the flying white brick

Im trying to do something different than a TIE swarm

Put a Heavy Laser Cannon on the BH (or Autoblaster or Ion Cannon). You need some kind of weapon on board to take advantage of the BH's rear firing arc. An Ion Cannon could be fun.If it hits, you'll know where the opponent's ship will be and can drop the Seismic charge for maximun efficiency.

I think Seismic Charges are underrated and can really shine if played correctly. When you can safely predict where the opponent may end up (ie. where is their best placement, will they k-turn, ion cannon, etc.) and you drop the Seismic charges, you can do some significant damage to ships flying in tight formation. I oughta know: my buddy hit me twice with them in one turn (he ran a 4-bomber list) when I had k-turned to get behind him and then the other 2 bombers hit the same 2 a-wings when I had made a hard turn a few rounds later. I lost both my a-wings to 4 seismic charges and I thought it was awesome.

Ultimately, though, play and run what will be fun for you. The best list in the world isn't any good if the guy running it ain't enjoying playing it. Run and play what ya want. ;)

(Of course, that could be why I've done so poorly at HS tournaments. I tended to bring swords to a gunfights, )

you do realise you cant fire secondary weapons out the firesprays rear arc?

still a good idea to have HLC on the firespay though

lol, I completely forgot that.

I was mistaking the primary weapon firing arc with the secondary. Yeah, that's it.

Thanks Mace, for setting me straight. :)

What you have listed doesn't gain much benefit from Jonus. That would be the ordnance you can still buy but to make use of Jonus you'll need some secondard weapons and the APT doesn't count if you can fire it with TL + Focus.

Using Jonus and Rymers is hard because they cost so much and you really want multiple attacks to benefit from Jonus. A Firespray with a cannon certainly can do that as can Rymers except that the APT needs rerolls far less than most ordnance does. I'm wondering if you drop the APT down to a Cluster Missile and then use the points to buy a HLC for the Bounty Hunter and a second missile/torp for Rymers..
