Another "Help me Decide"

By sarvinator, in X-Wing

Hey guys, a million of these get posted but I would appreciate feedback as I've had a hard time deciding on lists in the past. I'm playing in a store champ on Sunday and would appreciate advice.

Two lists:

2x Blue Squadron with Fire Control System (24 a piece)

Rookie X-wing (21)

Jan Ors with Nien Nunb and Ion Cannon Turret (31)

100 points total.

or

2x Blue Squadron with Fire Control System (24 each)

Outter Rim Smuggler with Falcon title and Anti Pursuit Lasers (30)

Rookie X-Wing (21)

99 points total.

I've played with the first list several times this week, and getting those B-Wings in close with the possible target locked & focused shot, and then one of them getting an extra die from Jan is pretty devastating, especially on the first pass. However once I am down a B-wing or if Jan is taken out the list is nothing special.

The second I feel like has a pretty good mix of firepower and hit points. Even though the ORS only rolls two for attack, I would be trying to get it in close and using the 1 PS and hopefully initiative (99 points) to disrupt the enemy formation and maybe get some shots in with the APL.

Thoughts?

That first list is one I've run and I really like it. It's currently my go-to list.

I like your second list the best. ORS should move where the enemy will, causing bad action economy and some cheeky hits from the APL. Ideally, your opp should have to choose between flying into ORS and getting punished for it, or scattering around and losing coherencey, where your B's can tear them a new one!

Thanks for the input. I think I'm leaning toward the second one after some more discussions, but I do still love that first list.

Real question: What is better support for two FCS B-Wings and a Rookie?

ORS + Falcon + APL vs. Jan + ICT + NN

The ORS will be harder to take out and I believe will be better against larger squadrons. If blocks it can deal damage and should be able to make attacks with its primary.

I think Jan could be better if you face smaller, high quality squadrons. She gets to boost the attack on one ship which can be important to taking out an opponent when they have few ships to start with. The ICT is a form of movement control just like the ORS blocking except it only affects one target.

I guess I favor the ORS if you expect to playing against more swarm types and Jan if you expect to face many 3 ship squads. That't probably no help because a number of squads will be 4 or 5 ships which may not favor one more than the other.

I feel in a tournament setting I may be better off setting it up like I'm going to face a swarm, but you are right, the first one is probably better against a small squad.
