Which rebel swarm is better?

bbbaa or yyxxb and what are good tactics with them

Zzzzzzzz....... would be a swarm

Are you against BBXAA?

I like more B's if you had to use one of ur two lists.

The A's should Action Deny and/or Skirmish (hit and runs with no return fire)

The difficulty with Rebel Swarm is the lower Pilot Skill coupled with less shots than Imperial Swarm.

If you used YYXXB you have durablity in numbers, but no real benefit other than that as you have 3 ships with big hulls, a differnt combination of 3 that throw maximum dice, and it is iffy about the maneuverability of B's as backup X's.

I like the idea, but that many out-of-the-factory ships with no true defensive capacity may be hurting vs. HLC or more maneuverable PTL Interceptors

Strength in numbers is not the natural fit for the rebel ships. To field nothing but PS 1 and 2 ships is giving up the advantages that the Rebels have. At 100 points, 5 ships is a ship too many. The Z95 might change this, but time will tell.

The people who are telling you that the rebel swarm is a bad idea are wrong; 5 ship rebel builds are solid builds!

Both builds above are good. With BBBAA you can play for action denial with the A's; with XXYYB you will be able to easily outlast builds that rely on ion weapons and some secondary weapons.

I guess I'm more of a XXYYB man myself, but either is good!

I can count on one hand how many times I have lost with a YYXXB squad.

There are several really good 5 ship rebel lists.

AABBB or AAXBB are both good solid lists. The A's are great blockers and the B's can last to dish out some pain.

Another really good 5 ship rebel list is

ORS + Gunner

x4 Prototype Pilots

You will be surprised at how well this list does.

;)

You may want to add how many times you've flown such a squad. :)

Between those two I believe 2a3b to be stronger. It offers better a better dial for your tanks plus gives them tackling ability with PS1. B's will also survive on average longer than an x wing will so it generally lives longer too.

Oh god... That's "Slap Fight" and it's freaking awesome. I've never flown a list that was more pain in the ass for my enemy. I've currently only lost twice with it and that was to 2 top 16 placers at the 2013 Worlds tournament.

Bandit stats are known. It is also known that the Z95 is the rebel swarm ship.

How many ships make up a 'Swarm'? 4 no? 5 yes?

5 ships on the imperial side are addressed as a 'mini-swarm' ...

So I guess you need 6 ships then. The Rebels have to wait for the Z95 to build a swarm.

Furthermore there is only one valied tactic when flying a swarm.

I make it a point to never fly Y-wings without a turret. They're so unmaneuverable that it's usually a pretty bad idea. The 360 degree arc is imperative.

They are both just as good...when they're dead! Empire! Empire! Empire!

Sorry, coudnt resist. Off the top of my head, I think 4 ship rebel builds have won the most store championships on my other thread. Of the 2 lists I think 2a3b is strongest but I prefer AABBX myself.

For 2a3b fly your Bs in formation and either split the As to each side or keep them together for flanking. It's a jousting list with 2 flankers.

Haven't flown a ton of Ys so I'll let others make suggestions there.

Sorry, but this kind of stuff comes across as snarky (whether or not it is intended), something I'm not used to seeing here. Most people currently use the phrase "rebel swarm" to denote a 5 ship rebel build in the current system, so it's not like his title was confusing and you were helping clear it up. Further, I've got no problem with people talking about lists from Wave 4, but it doesn't come across as very helpful.

I like YYXXB better, as its greater diversity of ship leads to having fewer bad match-ups.

BBBAA against an Imperial Swarm or an Alpha-Strike fleet loses a lot of firepower quickly, as the B-Wings are easily focused down.

YYXXB, on the other hand, keeps the same number of ships with only 1 attack die, but shifts firepower to the more survivable ships, leading to much more damage in the long run.

You could also consider ABBXY, for the middle-road of survivability, and the maximum of diversity.

But the dial is not known.

B wings on average take one more shot to kill than xwings. The firepower in 2a3b tends to live longer actually.
