Aces in the shops but not tournament legal.

Australia is first. Just picked up my Imperial Aces pack which is officially released today.

Unfortunately the tournament rules are yet to be updated to make them play in official tournaments. I don't understand FFG going through a well appreciated effort for a worldwide unified release date and then have the product not allowed to play in tournaments?

Shouldn't be the right marketing move to have some special release tournaments at the weekend the product comes out? Seems to be like that with most of 'the' card games by others.

Simple, they don't like huge changes in the middle of a tournament season. This is a bit of a bigger issue with the LCGs, as they have a more constant release. Don't expect anything released in the middle of Regionals to become tournament legal for the rest of the Regionals.

Mainly because there is no unified release. My store here in the US doesn't seem to get FFG releases until a few days after the "official" release announcement on the site.

The problem is that there are "higher stakes" tourneys going on right now, and it's really a miniatures games (and that's more what this is -- a miniatures game with cards -- you don't actually play cards directly against other cards). Miniatures games in my experience, tend to allow people time to have them in hand and use them/play against them for a period of time before they are tournament legal, which also allows any rules kinks to be worked out.

It's not a "worldwide unified release date" if Australia is a week ahead of everyone else. X-Wing isn't a card game and FFG always waits a bit before allowing the new models into tournaments. It's considerate to those who can't get them the first day because their local shop under ordered. Also it gives FFG the chance to release errata as well.

Yep, agreed with what others have said already. I suspect that they will become legal after the store championships have finished.

According to the local shops around my area, I'll even be lucky to have them by next Wednesday even though they are to "be expected" by Monday according to the last FFG update I saw. I'll likely have to wait until Friday more than likely, and even then my LGS was bumped down from his order of 8 to 3. 2 of which I told him I have the intention of taking right away.

My FLGS received their order of 36 boxes yesterday at 5pm local and, by closing at 10pm, all 36 boxes were claimed by pre-orders and walk-ins. So, in 5 hours, a Star Destroyer's fighter compliment of 72 was sold to some very happy X-Wing players, myself included.

Friday the 14th is the official release day. That's when they are getting them "in" at the FFG Games Center. They won't put them out there before the official date to make sure they are not hurting any other retailers.

me me me now now now. That's what I read.

We are technically in the middle of a season and in the case of my country, aces haven't arrived here yet due to a disturbing "Lack of faith" at the distributor.

We've already had some store championships played. Wouldn't be fair to have new ships introduced into the tournament rules at this point.

FFG said it's updating the tournament rules in early April. That indicates that FFG doesn't want Imperial Aces to be legal for any of the store championships, but it does want it to be legal for regionals.

It makes sense. like DailyRich said, it wouldn't be fair to introduce new stuff half the store championships have been played already.

I don't think it is a case of messing up store championships compared to ones that already happened, more that a lot of folks who want the Aces may not have them for a few weeks, whilst others will and that sets an imbalance at individual events still to come.

Exactly. Top prize at GSC's is a 1st round bye at a Regional. You have to have a level playing field (or at least uniform rules set) for the entire GSC run.

until they update the Tournament FAQ, they are not legal.

I just picked up a box at my FLGS. I'll tell you, it was difficult for me to resist buying two. The reason I didn't? Because I want to give my gaming buddies a chance to get theirs too. I can wait a week or two to give them their chance to get a set. :)

My Aces are in at my LGS. I pre-ordered 2 boxes. Going to get them after work. Huzzah.

My LGS has a game shipment coming today. They placed the order with the hopes that the get their Aces.

Update: I WILL be picking up a set on my way home from work.

My LGS said either saturday or next week... and Miniatures Market sent me an email saying my order got processedso I should have them in my hands soon....

Why would anyone want a free pass for a round as a prize? Is actually playing the game and besting an opponent a thing of the past?

Have any stores on the East Coast gotten them in? I've told my FLGS I want one, but haven't put any money down, but we're talking Massachusetts here, and I'm guessing it may take another week before I see one.

My Amazon pre-order was updated, and the supplying company my pre-order is fulfilled through emailed me saying the shipment is delayed another week. :(

Forsooth, Amazon! There is no other I trust more.

My FLGS in NJ has them in stock, but isn't selling them until Monday.

Here in Ohio my FLGS got in 12, and they were all taken by pre-orders. Luckily I was one of those.

Whereabouts? My FLGS in Akron doesn't have them yet.
