Hi all;
Just a quick question. Rebel(scum) fly their ships in wings of 3 correct? How about the Imperials, are they the same or different?
Cheers

According to the old West End Games RPG the Imperials used fighter wings of 6 squadrons of 12 fighters each.
I thought it was 2 fighters=an element
6 = flight
12 = squadron
36 = wing
2 wings in star destroyer for 72 fighters
Or is my memory shot?
Hmm, ok... I was just curious, as I want to collect a 'correct' amount of each ship. So far I'm 3 of each Rebel(scum) ship, and 3 of each Imperial ship. TIE's on the other hand, I have managed to procure 7 of, somehow. Just want to know how many more I should get.
As DFocke's info...
5 more for a single Squadron. Too many more for a complete Wing.
As per KILODEN's info...
1 more would give me 4x Elements, 5 more would give me 2x Flights, Still... Too many more to make a complete Wing.
Cheers for the info guys.
Sniped from Wookieepidia (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Fighter_wing)
In the navy of the Galactic Empire, the fighter wing usually referred to all of the starfighters carried aboard an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, which amounted to six squadrons or seventy-two starfighters and bombers. Each squadron was typically divided into three flights of four fighters, but could separate into two elements of two fighters.
Ninja'ed several times over...
Rebel and Imperial organization is identical up to the squadron level.
2-ship Elements
4-ship Flights
12-ship Squadrons
The size of "wing" formations is generally based on the starfighter complement of each navy's primary capital ship, so the MC80 puts the average Rebel wing at 3 squadrons, while an Imperial-class can field 6 squadrons of TIEs.
36-ship Wings (Alliance)
72-ship Wings (Empire)
However, any warship's complement can be referred to as that ship's "wing".
You see 3-ship formations in A New Hope because (in-universe) of the confines of the trench and casualties from the battle, as well as (out-of-universe) storytelling purposes.
As an aside, this means that as Red Five, Luke is the leader of Second Flight, despite his inexperience. Biggs can vouch for his ability, Leia for his bravery, and Garven Dreis once flew alongside another Tatooine farmboy named "Skywalker", so he sees it as a good omen.
I can't thank everyone enough for the info posted here. It has made my purchasing decisions so much clearer. No, I'm not trolling... It really has helped.
Cheers
