Tourney Squints

By cvtheoman, in X-Wing

I'm working on my squad for my FLGS championship this weekend, and I'm planning on running all Squints (if Aces is out by then).

Option 1 looks like this:

Turr Phennir + VI

Carnor Jax + PtL

Soontir Fel + PtL

Dark Curse (exception)

Option 2 exchanges Jax's PtL to VI so I can upgrade Dark Curse to Alpha Interceptor

Option 3 is:

Turr Phennir + VI

Carnor Jax

Tetran Cowall + VI

Lt Lorrir

O1 is the balanced one, and I feel like Jax and DC make a good combo. O2 is for extra firepower. O3 is for maximum maneuverability.

Your thoughts?

If it's an official Store Championships, Aces will not be legal - not until FFG updates the FAQ and says they are legal. If it is a "just for fun" or non-official tournament, I wish you luck with them!

I was also thinking of running a 'fun' 4 interceptor list as well. Toying with this idea:

Soontir Fel - Push the Limit 30

Saber Squadron Pilot - Marksmanship 24

Saber Squadron Pilot - Marksmanship 24

Saber Squadron Pilot 21

99 points.

Tourney legal or not ( yet) , I'd appreciate any input on which option you guys would choose, and why. I'm still fairly new to X-wing, but I tend to "go big or go home" and the maneuverability and flanking, plus extra attack dice, of the Squints is my kind of game.

Basically, the message people sending to me time and time again, the game is balanced to the point where any 100 point list can potentially beat any other 100 point list based on the player's skill.

What do you envision your squadron doing? Do you enjoy quantity over quality, do you prefer high maneuverability or heavy firepower, survivability vs tanking, etc etc.

Interceptors with PTL often last a while for me and deal a fair bit of damage (and are a blast to fly). Interceptors with PTL and Stealth are even better. Soontir Fel with PTL + Stealth is just a mean thing to do to your opponent. Carnor is great fun too, but in my early testing he feels like a lone wolf distractor, sneaking from behind or the side to negate focus/evade while your main force of something else comes and delivers an assault.

Turrets are the nemesis to an Interceptor.

Your first list looks fun. I'm likely testing a squad tomorrow with three Saber Squadron + PTL and Stealth plus Night Beast w/Engine Upgrade (focus + boost when he does a green maneuver seems like it has potential).
