I recently purchased the Trollfens expansion and would like to purchase Lair of the Wyrm before moving on to purchasing the "big box" expansions. I see that Fantasy Flight lists a reprint for April of this year. Does anyone have any idea on when in April we could expect to see it on shelves? I wasn't sure if April meant that is when the printing process would start and we would see it some time later, or if April was when we could expect to find it for purchase. Thanks!
Lair of the Wyrm Reprint
If it says April, that generally means when it's going to be available, so it shouldn't be too much longer. I was fortunate enough to find a copy of LotW on amazon on sale recently, so maybe you could look into that if you don't want to wait.
Thanks for the quick reply! I was recently looking for it on Amazon and couldn't find it. That's actually why I purchased The Trollfens instead. Oh well, I can wait another month. I'll probably pick up Labyrinth of Ruin too in the meantime just to be safe, as I could see it going out of print with the Shadow of Nerekhall coming out soon.
If it makes you feel any better, I actually thought trollfens was better than LotW.
I heard that it will be on April 32, at 13 am.
Trollfens have harpies, very powerful! Lor has hybrid sentinels another favorite of mine! Hard to decide which is best, better to just have them all

None of the expansions will go out of print as long as the base game remains in print.
There's a difference between going out of print and ordering a new print run. Ordering a new print run means the previous print run sold out. As such, when an expansion needs to be reprinted, as LoW is now, depends entirely on sales of that expansion, and not on the release schedule of new expansions.
Just FYI - If I could take it back, I wouldn't bother with LotW. I bought all three of the expansions at once, but frankly don't see a whole lot of value in the small-box expansions. Owning one is valuable, owning the 2nd is just pure overlap, and LotW is definitely less interesting than Trollfens.
Unless they revamp what's in them - and preferably include a full campaign - I won't bother with future small boxes.
That's certainly good information to know. Although, I will probably buy LotW anyway, simply because I consider myself to be a collector and want the whole collection. I have the Trollfens and just ordered Labyrinth of Ruin this weekend. Also looking forward to the Shadow of Nerrekhal expansion since it will also have a new campaign!

I wouldn't hold my breath on the idea of getting a full campaign in a small box expansion. That's the purpose of the big boxes. That said, I can understand your position. I don't see much point in playing rumours as they are today either. We play the small boxes using "mini-campaign" rules when we want something shorter than a full campaign but longer than a one-shot.
On the bright side, if you can rule out small boxes, I imagine your wallet will thank you.

When I'm overlord, if I win the first map, I'll frequently throw the rumors down immediately while I have a big advantage and take the relics easily. Often, I can prevent them from getting much, if any, treasure at all. The bonus overlord cards are nice too, and I like the bonus threat. 3 extra threat (or 2 if you lose) is helpful. If I lose the first map though, I won't play them unless forced.
If you buy both boxes you get more options. More secret rooms...more classes. More monsters and characters and ol cards. Nothing in either set is redundant. And with the wat that rumor cards work having both sets makes it possible that you can see niether both or only one optional side quest in a campaign. If you have the luietenant packs then the threat cards make putting a rumour down a good idea....ita a free threat. Depending on your deck that can be useful. I like everything about second edition and I own every first and second edition product. I hope they keep up the good work and can't wait for more classes and luitenant /decks.
I've been a little concerned about Lair of the Wyrm since it's been out of stock for a little while on Amazon, and if I'm not mistaken the FFG reprint originally said February- but it makes sense that it will be reprinted soon. The small boxes offer hero and overlord classes, which to me are the core of what make this game more replayable. I don't know about hero and monster collections (especially because I've got the CK,) and I'm very much staying away from lieutenant packs, but I plan to get most if not all of the small/big boxes.
Incidentally, my FLGS has a copy of Lair of the Wyrm still available, if someone wants to try calling them and see if they can ship it. The store is Three Trolls Games and Puzzles on Summer Street in Chelmsford MA.

Considering Descent is one of FFG's popular franchises atm, I wouldn't expect expansions to go out of print unless Descent 3e is around the corner.
