Cyber-Nexu damage

By bboi018, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I've searched the forum but I didn't find a dedicated thread.

For Cyber-Nexu with the Energized Claws: +3 damage and Stun 10.

When he attacks with his claws..it does Base damage + 3...and Stun 10...

Is soak applied to both the damage and the stun? I believe it's a Passive stun but it's unstated.

If it's passive...that means it doesnt require the +2 advantages to activate just like the Active Stun correct?

It's Stun 10, which means it's the active Stun quality with a magnitude of 10. Rules are in the CRB in the Weapon Qualities section ;)

Short answer, damage is reduced by Soak. "Suffer X strain" is not damage in this sense, therefore the Stun quality is not affected by soak. (the passive Stun Damage/Stun Setting is damage, and is therefore affected by Soak as usual)

Page 66, which describes Cratala's cybernetics, says "A series of micro-generators placed under the skin provide an electrical jolt on a successful combat check (Stun 10)." So I'm guessing that means the stun is applied whenever you hit and you don't have to spend advantage. I'd also assume that you apply soak to it as well. It also says it can only be used ever two rounds "or so".

Conflicting answers......not sure if You take the damage + stun(passive) in a round..or if you take dmg + stun (with 2 advantages)...or if you choose either regular damage OR stun damage....

My understanding is that the regular damage is applied on a hit and Soak reduces it. After damage is applied, the Stun 10 can be activated with 2 Advantages and is not reduced by Soak. Yes, this will result in a KO on many PCs if they've been spending any Strain.

That's what I figured as well HappyDaze.

HD is correct in this matter.

i agree with happydaze, that is how i ran it. one of my players got isolated from the group and attacked by it, fortunately for him i didn't generate the advantage to stun him. even though he was a combat focussed character he ran.

Even though he was a combat-focused character, he ran.

I must say I find it refreshing to read of characters choosing the "run today, maybe fight tomorrow" choice. This has to be the sixth such example I've read. I'm not attributing this to the game system, though. Excellent player caliber, most definitely.

First time my AD&D 1st ed Fighter got hit with an arrow, I hid behind my shield like a whipped puppy. The guys teaching me to play quickly taught that reflex out of me. It's a shame it took me fifteen more years to realize what "role" playing is, and that what they taught me was far from it.

Our r2 unit simply shut off after this attack and the other players carried him back to the ship to get him up and running again.

It is a brutal attack indeed!

Awayputurwpn has the right of it. Stun X is an activated quality in the CRB.

With some incredible teamwork and some really lucky dice rolling (or unlucky from the GM's perspective) the two of us who were cornered by the Cyber-Nexu managed to escape (enough advantage on a previous character's combat check was sufficient to move one nexu who was blocking the exit) and Deve managed to dodge several attacks and dive (er... "strategically" fall and slide) across the bridge out of range of a frag grenade tossed into the room by the next player. We let loose with a barrage of blaster fire, managed to kill two, and sent the third one running.

I was giggling like a fanboy as the GM described the cyber-enhanced nexu. That encounter was a blast.

what made the situation even funnier was the combat guy (trandoshan gadgeteer) got on the comlink saying he was being chased by a nexu, there was another character (human fringer) alone lost in the dark of the wreck. the fringer clogged up the comms channel blubbering and refusing to move. the third and final player (rodian thief) who was outside the wreck had to try and talk him through his crises.
