I've been following that webcomic since it's first episode: it's amazing. ![]()
Man! I'd forgotten about that site. Thanks!
I can't wait to see the party's reaction when the DS II opens fire..
Makes me wish I was a Cheddar Monk. :'(
Recognize me? I'm what'cha call a wet blanket. ![]()
I read that strip obsessively for a while, mostly because of the endless hilarity that was its inspiration, 'DM of the Rings'. But ultimately, I had to drag myself through Episode III, and only got a few pages into IV before I gave up.
Why? Because (in my mind) it stopped being funny! I feel like the writers got so interested in their own plot, they assumed that the reader was, as well. Like everyone was chomping at the bit to see what happens with these 'Peace Moon' plans. All I was into was humorous, 'oh yeah, I get it!' scenarios about what happens around a typical rpg table.
But the worst part (and I'm not sure who reads them) was those awfully patronizing 'this is how you GM' epilogues at the end of every page. They just read like, 'sit down, young padawan, and let me impart my wisdom about running an rpg'. Even if I'd enjoyed the page, that enjoyment was sucked away by the preachiness of the closing GM speech.
Oh man... wet blanket, indeed! I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but for some reason (perhaps because I'm a few sheets to the wind) I felt the need to weigh in on a page that I still have bookmarked, but can't bring myself to visit again.
Still, I appreciate the work that's gone into it!

I take those with a grain of salt. Sometimes it's helpful, other times it's kind of cliche'd advice.
Still, though, I love the comic. It's a good story and an interesting way to tell it.
Freaking hilarious, thanks
Wait a second, he writes it for all 6 movies? I read like the first 22 pages which were all about episode 1 of course.
So if you have read a lot of it, is it best to start at the beginning? or go right to "A New Hope"? That is really where I wanted to start.
Side note I almost fell out of my chair when they got his sister to play and she came up with the "Jar Jar" concept.
Edited by AgentJThey are currently still doing Empire Strikes back but all indications are they will do all 6 films. Maybe even the Sequels in time.
They say on their FAQ that they may consider doing something like TCW... though I'm not sure whether they've changed their stance on this.
One of the threads around here reminded me of D&D, and I went back and read it all over again and shared it with members of my playing group. I kind of hope they do the next few sequels when they get released, it'll be fun!
I also liked the bottom comments as they are insightful thoughts from a GM and free advice for others. Take it, leave it, or let it inspire your own ideas.
I love Darths and Droids! I found it around the time i was just starting to get into roleplaying games and stuck around for the star wars gags. Looking back at it now I get some more of the rpg gags.
Around Revenge of the sith it does get a little bit contrived in spots. I think that was just an inherent problem with doing their kind of jokes with revenge of the sith. Its just not a very rpg kind of a movie. While The Phantom Menace worked the best, because its the most like an rpg adventure. I've found their original trilogy work has gotten back around to having fun.
The GM blurbs at the bottom can range from trying to be funny, to trying to be quirky, to trying to be ironic. I like them for the most part. I just try to be weary of tvtropes links since i almost necer manage to escape afterward.
And if you start from anywhere its best to do so from Episode one. It probably has the best jokes of the bunch and is the set up for pretty much the rest of the comics.
See, I actually liked Darths & Droids more because the players had character themselves; for the same reason, I didn't get into DM of the Rings - all of the players seemed to just hate the game and story, and that got boring to me very quickly.
But to each their own, nai?
Pete is my hero and it reminds me that I have to make the most gamebreaking minimaxed astromech droid technician in the EotE sometimes.

Any by extension Chainmail Bikini was awesome (once you get passed the very controversial beginning).
Edited by kaosoeNever read that... but now I want to.
Thanks for this!!! Have read 100 pages in one go!
I love Jim.
He reminds me of one of my best mates... particularly the looting, hoarding, and general idiocy.

It had a very short run. You can probably finish it in about an hour at most.

I always thought those were hilarious. They are usually ironic, tongue-in-cheek examples of "what not to do when GMing" or they would point out the sometimes absurd expectations we have when playing RPGs. I never really thought of it as actual advice, or saw it as patronizing. Different interpretations, I suppose...
I love this webstrip!
I got introduced to this and The Gamers 2: Dorkness Rising in the same weekend ... it was marvelous!
