Ideas on Wingman/Decoy (in Z-95 pack)?

By R22, in X-Wing

Any ideas on what Wingman and Decoy will do in the Z-95 pack?

Also, do you think we'll ever see a 'barrel role' modification? (I know Expert Handling does this already while removing a target lock, but it costs you a stress and thusly denies you an EPT slot where as the boost modification does neither.)

wingman appears to be something like

At the start of the combat phase, you make move one stress token from an ally at range ??? to your ship.

Sort of captain Yorr. could be worth it for 1-2 points but the card definitey says at the start and pretty sure it says Combat phase. could be much better if it worked like Yorr and you could yoink the stress at any time, particularly considering the new stress manipulation cards coming out. For instance, if you do take a stress from an ally, Hobbie would be a good fit with R2-D6.

I think wing man works like draw their fire. Thats kind of what wing men do.

just looked again, definitely says at the start of the combat phase, then something about 1 stress token.

So we throw this on Tycho and no one ever cares about stress again.

Easy.

I dunno' why we speculate, get our hopes up, and then have them dashed by something we didn't know about previously. We'll see what it does when the time comes. Patience is a virtue.

Wingman sounds right. Decoy probably transfers target locks or something.

So we throw this on Tycho and no one ever cares about stress again.

Holy crap that sounds incredible... You could use his manueverability to just flitter around taking stress from the whole list.

Until Tycho dies.

The ability might be limited to one stress token per round.

It is also during the Combat phase, so it doesn't help ships that have just K-turned. It can, however, pull a stress from a ship that just PtL'ed, particularly one that isn't too maneuverable, so that ship doesn't have to worry about doing a green. I also reiterate it would be great with R2-D6 on Hobbie, who can shed the stress on his attack.

Wingman: if a friendly ship withing range 1 is targeted by an "Ugly", you may gain one shield to become the target of the attack instead. Roll a red die after resolution of attack. On a hit or crit take one "Space Herpies" token.

I would prefer when the Wingman would be an effect/skill applying to a specific (pre-chosen) ship instead of the usual ally at range x. It would be something new and would also allow for making the effect stronger without unbalancing it, since you have to work more to make it applicable.

What if it were like...

"At the start of the combat phase, if you can spot a friendly ship at range 1 with Wingman, increase your Attack Die by 1 (limit of +1)"

It would make it useful only if you could get a squad of ships with EPT, and once you were down to 1 guy it would be worthless, but i could see it helping A-wings alot, and Headhunters if they have a generic with EPT...

Speculation

Might be like Jan's ability take a stress to give an attack or evade dice. I'd love to be able to give out extra evade dice!

Move like a Wingman, shoot like a Decoy

Maybe it will let you hand out evade tokens!!

If it allows you to take a stress to give an evade token or extra agility dice that would be great to run next to biggs with r2-f2 and a stealth device lol!

I think it would have been cool if these were not EPTs or even only available to non-EPT ships. Being a Wingman or Decoy seems to suit these "lesser" pilots more as supporting their leader.

Decoy:

At the start of the combat phase, you may discard this card to move your ship 2 straight backwards.

cost: 1 point

I agree wholeheartedly, assuming Wingman is an EPT it seems odd that Wedge would be backing up a Rookie Pilot rather than the other way round

Yes and no. If it has to do with stress, just think, it makes perfect sense for Wedge, at this point a seasoned veteran, to be able to comfort worrisome rookies in times of stressful circumstances.

From zooming in on my cellphone, I can make out some of the words on Decoy and other new EPTs. Added in some guesses as to the blanks. Let's play a Mad Lib.

Decoy:

At the start of the __(combat?)_ phase, you may _______(choose?)____ 1 friendly ship at __________. Exchange your ____(Pilot Skill with?)_______ that ship's ____(Pilot Skill?)______________________.

Other ones from the wave:

Predator:

When attacking, __(you may?)_________ reroll 1 attack ______(die. If the?)________ defender's ____(shield? agility?)_________ value is "0" _____________ you may _____(reroll another?)_________________.

Outmaneuver:

When attacking ____(an enemy ship in?)____________ your firing arc, if ___(you are?)____________ inside that ship's ______(firing arc?)___________ reduce the agility _____(of that ship by 1?)______________.

Thoughts? If I'm right on outmaneuver I can see super-awesome synergy with Wedge. Predator appears to say reroll, based on a condition. Sound off!

These seem really close!

If it does indeed swap PS it has to cost less than swarm tactics.
