Where do you get your movement templates at?

By Desslok, in X-Wing

If your doing this for durabillity, for $10-$0 more you could get another core set with NEW templates a X-Wing 2 Ties and a ton of other stuff.

This guy works for FFG.

Another core set doesn't make my current templates more durable, just gives me a replacement. I already have 4 X-Wings and 8 Tie Fighters. I don't need more of those either really.

Sigh... I still have 2 unopened core sets I got for 20 bucks.. lol

Once I get more ships (only have a core), then I'll buy some acrylics templates/tokens. I'm in the process of making some custom logos that I can put on some Litko templates. Logos are coming along nicely.

Looks like Team Covenant's back in stock! They just sent out an announcement today that they were adjusting them to be even more accurate, since apparently the FFG pieces have become more consistent, and are giving people who already have them updated pieces. They look snazzy and I couldn't be happier with their responsiveness and customer service.

That said, the fluff of acrylic templates is intriguing and they can be a nice addition to your tools of the game.. but not mandatory...

No they're not, but for $25 for a set that you don't have to worry about getting wet, or bending, and IMO look much better. It's a really good deal for a game that many of us have spent so much money on already.

I want to point out that the cardboard templates also wear out and shrink up over time.

When I first brought my acrylics to our LGS, he wanted to measure them all and make sure they were accurate. He thought some were a couple millimeters off.

However, this guy has like 9 core sets from doing demos and whatnot, as he works at the shop, so some of these were quite old. When I compared the acrylics to my (newer, purchased in October and December) templates, they were spot on. HIS templates were off just because they were so old.

Acrylics are definitely worth it, even moreso if you intend to play for a long time.

I mentioned it earlier, but in case someone misses that or doesn't wanna look back, the templates I am talking about are from Applied Perspective, and are highly recommended. Perfectly accurate, great customer service.

I ordered the litko range ruler over other companies purely because they include the 'laser blast' graphic down the length of them like on the core set range ruler

The acrylic ones have nice crisp corners that make lining up ship bases much easier than the slightly rounded corners of the cardboard. The durability is better. Best of all: SHINY.

Shiny trumps all.

Lots of goodies from Applied Perspective in my X-Wing case. Movement Templates, Range Rulers, Tokens.

\agree. "shiny trumps all"

I'm actually considering using my Core Set templates as a pattern to make my own out of Cherry or Walnut.

I like the idea here. A nice design with some sweet detail work could make a wooden maneuver set really stand out! I also like the possibilities of a brushed aluminum, brass or polished steel version.

With a wood burning set you could really do some cool logos in a wood set as well. My dad does wood carving and wood burning... and I have a basement full of tools to do a project like this.. hmm cherry wood... mahogany...

Just got my movement templates from litko today. AWESOME! They match my cardboard templates perfectly. They recently redesigned them so they don't have such obnoxious advertising on them (the litko logo is now small and in the corner). I got the basic set so they are clear with white frosted numbers and arrows. Very tasteful.

Litko's range rulers are great too. You get a two pack with red and green for scum and villainy. The best part is that they have a laser blast graphic running down their length like the core set ruler does.

As for tokens, I ordered from applied perspective since they are the best designs out there IMHO. Going to repeat what's been said in this thread and say that his customer service and speed of delivery is outstanding! He also offers free shipping on large orders and has ten packs of token available for bulk. I Highly recommend his products.
