How exactly does escalation work?

By Khyros, in X-Wing

So, for those of you who participated in escalation at worlds last year, how was it run? More specifically, from round 1 to 2, you have to have 30 of the same points. But is that down to the same pilot, or same ship or upgrade on the same pilot?

So, if my round 1 list is... lets say Wedge w/ PTL+R2 and Dagger w/ AdvS. Now I'm going up to 90 points, can I drop Wedge down to a Rookie and count that as 21 of the 30 points required? And then lets say I upgrade the Dagger to Ibby and put PTL AdvS, Ion, and EU on her. Does she count at 24 (dagger) + 3 (AdvS) + 3 (PTL) points of the "same" or what?

So, if my round 2 list was... Rookie, Ibby w/ PTL AdvS Ion EU, and Dutch w/ ICT... how many points would be considered "the same"?

Well it starts with a disagreement, then someone calls the other person a bad name, and then mothers get involved...

;)

I don't have a real answer but I couldn't help responding to the topic anyway.

The points kept over must be the same.

So you would keep wedge (29) and R2 (1), but switch PTL to another ship if you wanted.

The points must total the minimum amount for each round that are exactly the same as the round before.

So 30 points must be the same, as the round before, in your new 90 point squad, and 60 points must be exactly the same as the round before, in your 120 point squad.

You could also do Wedge (29) and the ADvS or PTL (3) as carry over as well, but you could not do just Wedge or just the Daggar as you would not be carrying over enough points.

Okay, so then if I understand correctly, the following would be legal

Round 1

Wedge w/ PTL + R2 (29 + 3 + 1)

Blue w/ AdvS (22 + 3)

Round 2

Wedge ( 29 )

Ibby w/ PTL (28 + 3 )

Dutch w/ ICT (23 + 5)

This would be a legal list because 29 points of Wedge are the same, and 3 points of PTL are the same, even though it's on a different ship. Ibby doesn't count as 22 or 28 points of the same because the pilot was not in the previous build (though the ship was). Is that right?

Yes , unless somewhere in the escalation rules drawn up it states that it all must be on the same ship (which I haven't seen) it is legal to bring Wedge and PTL for 33 points of carry over.

Now, when you go to carry over 60 points to the 120 bracket, it can be 60 other points, not necessarily Wedge or PTL.

So you could carry over Ibby with PTL (32) and Dutch with ion (28) for 60 points (even though you brought over Wedge in the first round - you don't have to carry him over, just 60 points of your previous build must make up the 120 point squad, just like 30 points was incorporated into your 90 point squad)

The key thing is that it must be points as shown on your squad roster that gets carried over.

Sweet, thanks for the clarification. I've always wondered what they considered carry over. It kinda sucks that you can't do a rookie/prototype/prototype in the first round, and then upgrade them to Greens w/ PTL in the second round since they're "different pilots"

Aw well, whatever. Now I know the rules and can build accordingly.
