Can a small fleet win Part 2

By Stone37, in X-Wing

As promised, I'm running another list that is "too small" to win and is comprised of nothing but ships that would be criticized as being mathematically incorrect. Here's is my list:

Green: PtL+Assault+Stealth

Kyle: Determination+Moldy Crow+Blaster+Recon

Dutch: Ion+R5-K6+Proton x2

What I'm up against:

Howlrunner: Stealth

Academy

Soontir: Daredevil+Stealth

Rhymer: Cluster+Concussion

I won't lie.... I'm a little nervous this time.

Let's start the play by play:

Here is the opening set up....

After Round 2:

Rebels:

Green - 2S/2H

HWK - 1S/4H

Y-wing: 1S/5H (Got ganged up on, but the dice were in Dutch's favor)

Empire:

Interceptor: DESTROYED (He was in range of both turrets, miscalculation on his part)

Bomber: 0S/6H

Howl: 0S/3H

Academy: 0S/3H

Starting to feel better about this one :D

Picture time!

End Round 3

Empire:

Howl: DESTROYED (Hit by Assault (crit) and Y-wing)

Academy: 0S/2H (Splash damage from Green's Assault missile)

Bomber: 0S/4H (Took double damage crit from HWK)

Rebels:

Green: 2S/2H

Y-wing: 1S/3H

HWK: 0S/4H (Hit by Bomber at R1)

After Round 2:

Yea I had Turr vaporize in a single turret salvo yesterday. Friend was running 3 blaster turret ywings :( . Sucks that the turret so effectively counters the int.

No APT+PtL for Rhymer???

I'd like to see this list run against Howlrunner + 6 TIEs, and Biggs Walks the Dog... see if it's competitive in tournament settings

The dice were not in my friend's favor today, and I got some great rolls:

His bomber missed a R1 shot against HWK and then was hit by both turrets, leading to it's destruction.

After a lot of cursing, hands were shook. This one ended quickly.

I might have to give him a rematch.

We're going to do this again Thursday or Friday morning and he's going to play with Biggs Walks the Dog. I will use the same set up. I too would like to see how this fairs against a list that I am a big fan of. I have yet to loose a game where I have fielded a HWK, but I have also yet to play the HWK against Biggs...

Or you know... with asteroids... or against a player that doesn't maneuver his interceptor into R2 of a turret on the opening round.

To his credit, BOTH my HWK and Y-wing had TLs on other ships. He took a chance and was hoping to take a big bite out of my Y-wing. I think this was a well calculated risk on his part, because the Y-wing is most durable ship he was facing and Ions SUCK to fly against. The dice didn't work out for him and he only did one damage to the Y. It was just a bad dice day for him.

As for the asteroids... I hear you, but he doesn't like to play friendly games with them. If we're gearing up for a tourney or if we play with other people it's a different story. I'll see if we can't get the asteroids in next time for the sake of a tourney setting.

That's odd. Asteroids add depth to the game and require you to improve your flying skills. If you don't have them in play even in friendly games how can he get comfortable flying with them on the field? It seems like he is setting himself up to always be at a disadvantage in tournament/league play.

So much of this game's strategy revolves around asteroids that to me it would feel odd playing without them. :)

A rematch and some baked goods mayhaps :)

Here's what he's going to run on Friday morning:

Biggs

Rookie

ORS

Dagger+Adv. Sensors

I plan to keep my list the same, as I think I have the hardware to take down the tanks.

And there will be asteroids.
