New rebel aces List

By Geoffy, in X-Wing

So came up with this. Would love your feedback.

Wes VI Stress droid = 32

Hobbie EPT Droid Opportunist = 30

Wedge Opportunist R2 Astromech Shield upgrade = 38

I'm not in love with the shield on Wedge and I'd also thought about dropping Hobbie for Dutch to give target locks to Wedge, but whenever I think of using a Y-wing I throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Thought is to strip tokens with Wes and annihilate said target by up to 10 dice from Hobbie and Wedge combined. Hobbie rids himself of stress by spending the TL and Wedge uses his Astromech.

Tweakage?

if you don't like the shield upgrade, try giving two if them a flechette torpedo. would allow you to repeatedly ( or all at once for multiple rounds) stress out a ship or two and make the opportunist still work out. Wes and Wedge are going to have big targets on them, because if you lose either one you lose significant offensive capability. Therefore, your strategy should be deal as much damage to the primary enemy ASAP while stressing them out for added damage and defense.

I really like the idea of Hobbie + Opportunist. It's basically 5 points for an extra die on most attacks, and there is the "risk" that his target dies before he can shoot, but there is no in game risk since he can just shoot someone else and choose not to get the extra die, or still get it and stress himself, but then do a green next turn.

It's definitely a combo I want to play around with when the transport hits the shelves.

The following are suggestion I could think of while keeping the spirit of your list.

I'm not saying to definitely do this long-term, but a variant could be slotting in Jek Porkins+Opportunist in Hobbie's place. Costs the same with his own stress mitigation ability, and you pick up a couple of points of skill along the way.

Alternatively, you could even replace Wedge with Jek porkins. Jek+opportunist+R5-D8 runs you 33 points, vs. 34 for Wedge+Opportunist+R2 Astro, and R5-D8 mitigates the drawback of Porkin's ability. Finally, this variant would also eliminate the need for VI on Wes, freeing up his slot for something fun. Granted, this would be a drawback against Soontir, Vader, Han, and Wedge, but against most lists it wouldn't come into play.

Finally, I would at least try Wedge with an Engine instead of a Shield, if you decide to keep Wedge.

Thanks for the help. I just hate how three ships builds struggle so mightily in the current meta. You lose one and you're basically done. I was trying to get a bunch of opportunist to spam with Wes but there's no cheap way to do it and get a four ship list other than taking three GSPs with it plus Wes. Even with that you're still basically a more maneuverable xwing.
