Wave 4 Legal for Tournament Play/Regionals after Assault at Imdaar Alpha?

By firefighter35, in X-Wing

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick question maybe? Will the ships won at the Assault at Imdaar Alpha be tournament legal? I have a Regionals to attend on June 21 after this event and was wondering if they would be in the field or if I could field one (assuming I win one!)?

I would think that Wave 4 will not be legal for tourney play till they are officially released to the public.

Almost certainly.

Even then they may not be tourney legal for a bit, depending on the timing.

Figured as much but as the ships will be in the hands of the players, and there isn't too much in the way of rules surrounding this release and its impact on tournament play, thought the question was valid. As I run the store that hosts these events, they actually haven't addressed this at all!

They will not be legal until the official tourney doc is updated saying they are. Until then plan for them to be illegal. Or make two plans.

They actually have, indirectly, by not updating the tournament rules, which specifically lists which expansions are to be used. But yes, it's a valid question.

There was a discussion of it on A Few Maneuvers, here, where they responded to an email, where they said they won't be updating until before regionals. http://www.afewmaneuvers.com/topic/2198-imperial-aces-at-store-championships/

Like most minis games they want to keep things consistent and let players adjust to the new stuff, especially in case of a rule that needs a FAQ, even if it is just new pilot cards amd upgrades.

Last time around, during the kessel runs, they kept wave 2 illegal in tournaments until after GenCon, which was when the ships were released en masse. I can't see FFG changing this model this time around, so expect a wave 4 release in August and tournament legality in September, just like last time.

I think you are confusing the Waves.

Wave 2 released in Feb (granted, it sold out quickly). So it was legal for Regionals last year, unless you are forgetting the many complaints about double Falcons that seemed to dominate Regionals. Wave 3 debuted at Gencon, but was not legal for Nationals because it wasn't a wide release. Wave 3 didn't become legal until it got a wide release.

I think you're confusing years. I was referring to 2012, when the ships were debuted at Star Wars Celebration (when Wave 1 was available), the Kessel Run was in late spring / early summer, and then at GenCon they released the Falcon and the rest of wave 2, and Hothie went on to win Worlds. Last year wave 3 was dropped at GenCon, and Paul went on to win Worlds. Unless I'm drastically mis-remembering the schedule of events, anyway.

[EDIT: After reviewing the news archive, I will say I was wrong about when the Kessel Run was. It was in December of 2012, with the ships releasing in Feburary.]

Kessel Runs were in December, with the release in Feb. Wave 2 was announced at Gencon 2012.

Ninja edit wins lol, I did the same thing you did and looked for the news. I admit that I was wrong about the timing.

It's okay. It looks like you were just mixing up Wave 1 and Wave 2.
