First off, I know this shows my age but I keep wanting to call this ship the J.R.
Being serious though, where the hell did the E wing and also that three vaned TIE come from? Presumably in one of the spin off novels?

The E-wing is from the Dark Empire series of comics, and the Phantom is from the Third in the X-wing Rogue Squadron video game series. As for the Defender, it's from the TIE fighter video game

I thought the Phantom came from Rebel Assault II. The third Rogue Squadron game introduced the TIE Hunter.
Revanchist is correct, The Tie Phantom comes from Rebel Assault 2.
I have noticed that, when it comes to the EU, FFG seems yo draw more heavily from the video games than the novels.
Possibly due to the visual nature of the games?
I would say drawing from the video games makes it much easier to also get the feel of the ship, the way it maneuvers that people remember and the stats of the ship: shields, hull, armament in a more locked down form than from the descriptions in the novels or comics.

You're thinking of the TIE Hunter.
What game is that picture from?
Since they do seem to be drawing more from the X-wing series of PC games, I do hope the Imperials get the Assault gunboat. Not sure what else to give Rebels except maybe more Large ship types such as different YT's.
What game is that picture from?
Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike, on the Gamecube. Not the best game for flight sim (it was littered with a lot of ground missions) but when you flew you had a blast. The TIE Hunter is super fun to play around with. :3
Sorry.. I stand corrected..
E-wing = First Appearance was in Dark Empire
TIE Phantom = First appearance was in Rebel Assault II - The Hidden Empire, as well as Empire at War: Forces of Corruption
TIE Defender = First Appearance was in TIE Fighter video game
That should cover it...

Also the fact that the video games put a great deal of focus on the ships themselves, in contrast to novels/comics which put a lot of focus on characters and story as well. X-wing miniatures is all about the ships, so it is natural to draw from sources that share a similar design focus

Actually, that picture is from Empire at War.
That's a mod. But yes, the fighter itself is from RS:III
Is that from Thrawns Revenge???
Is that from Thrawns Revenge???
It could be. It could also be from the dozens of other mods that use the same unit.
Look I don't know- I just pulled a picture from a search.
Actually yeah, on a second glance it's a mod. The TIE Hunter in RS:III had the more traditional grey colour instead of the Bomber/Interceptor blue hue.
