Some more news from FFG!

By Khyros, in X-Wing

2 of those green Awings with Dutch+ion+flechette and a bandit with a concussion missile is going to cause some hurt.

Yep, or replace the flechette torpedo by R3-A2 so you can give a Ion and stress token in the same turn. Or use those A-Wing (or any ship with Opportunist)in partner with Wes Janson. He clear the token before you take your shot. Funny combo would be Wes Janson with veteran Instinct and Wedge with Opportunist.

More I think about it, the more it seems like this upgrade fits more with the rebels.

I like Wedge with opportunist hanging out with Wes. Up to five dice at R1 against 2 agility on most imp stuff is fantastic.

Maybe I'm just feeling pessimistic this week, but articles like this worry me to no end. Whoever wrote this is obviously not playing the same game we are.

At least they got Fel right :(

I get that feeling a lot. There is a metagame where people are shooting tons of missiles at each other, and in that metagame, Captain Kagi is awesome, people are equipping all those Proton Torpedoes, and using Expert Handling to shed target locks. There is a metagame where math works differently that sees Expose equipped all the time. There is a word where critical hits are always worthwhile, which is why Maarek Steele and Winged Gundark are ubiquitous Imperial Pilots, and people can't get enough of the Mercenary Co-pilot. There is a universe where players rarely know the direction in which they should fly where Boba Fett is their king.

None of us live in these universes, except for some FFG playtesters, apparently.

His ability stops them from taking the action to provide a focus and spend it if they already had it. So if you end up next to him in your activation phase, you can't perform a focus action, so Opportunist is in effect... and if someone gives the ship a focus, they can't use it..

Super iffy equipping a ship with an upgrade that is based on your opponent being dumb enough to willingly land within range 1. His pilot skill is 8, most of the time he's going to move last.

It does provide the advantage of having an enemy shy away from range 1 of you - presuming you are planning a modestly aggressive maneuver, an enemy that is desperately avoiding your CURRENT range 1 is going to have a real hard time keeping you in any kind of arc in range 1-2.

I mean, usually , an enemy maneuvering near you WANTS to close range - with Jax, they *don't*.

Try it, some time - dancing around range 2 (actively avoiding range 1) is...quite tricky. Jax with Opportunist forces the choice - you can close range for a better shot, but he'll deny you your 'focus' to do it, and then double down on that with an extra hit. And that's on LOWER skilled pilots - against anyone better, or equal that he has initiative against (Luke, Wedge, Salm, Tycho, Ten, Jan, Solo - and several others running VI - etc)...he can REALLY mess them up.

What bothers me most about this article is that the post mentions blocking with the shuttle several times, but doesn't bother to equip the most obvious upgrade for that strategy: Anti-Pursuit Lasers. Seems like a huge, HUGE oversight.

I agree that Fel looks just fine, but yeah... what were they thinking?

I entirely disagree with the APL suggestion. They did the right thing putting the Engine Upgrade on the craft instead. This is crucial to the Lambda and makes it a viable craft.

I don't play Imperial much, but Jax seems like he would be better off with PtL. Help guaratee that you get into range of your opponents so you can screw a few people up at range 1. Imagine landing directly between 2 B-wings while your squad opens fire on them.

And the shuttle should be Kagi + Sensor Jammer to force TL on him / focus actions while Jax blocks the focus tokens.

Then we just need some more damage.

Articles like these make me wonder if the designers even know how to play this game.

I think the most hilarious thing is that they loaded up a Doom Shuttle with 10 extra points' worth of upgrades.

Well, it surely does not look too bright for imperials; every ace's have some quirk in their skills, but rebel aces have skills that work all the time. Tarn, Wes, Hobbie, all add possibilities. And Porkins is potentionally so excellent with stressles koiogran. You may use it if you like, but it does not tie your hands like Kir Kanos for example.

Jax has been discussed already, Lorrir is missing EPT (ok he would been too good with that) Cowalls selective Koiogran isnt too hot imo as Interceptors are not at their best as jousters, Kir Kanos demands you to use evade, although focus would be overall much more usable, especially on high ag ships.

My 2 cents

I disagree with that statement. If we take a R2 shot, with a focus, you're likely to roll 2.25 hits. With his evade, you're likely to roll 2.5 hits. This is better.

If you save the token for defense, you will roll 1.88 evades with a focus, and 2.13 with the evade.

While one could argue that the focus can be taken for offense, and if not needed, saved for defense, you could make that same case for the evade token... if you naturally roll 2-3 hits, don't spend it and keep it for defense. Or, just go pewpew and roll 4, and guarantee that it goes through.

And seeing as tokens are to always be spent on defense for interceptors, this gives you the ability to take an evade, realize no one can shoot you, and then be offensive with it.

Why do you assume it's the designers who write the copy for these pieces, which are really ads, not analysis articles?

I think what people arent seeing about this build is it is a theme... Vaders escort... they aren't looking to use Vader.. he is just a passenger...

Once the game progresses its probably fair that Vader might be used, but I think the design is based on just the concept... ships to escort Lord Vader...

Simple concept using the new ships..

Navigator is what puzzles me. If you're moving that soon, PS2 after all, you shouldn't need to adjust much. That's an easy stealth for Jax, but I guess they're mostly just trying to show off a bunch of cards in the pack rather than make the best list.

I stand corrected. Only with stealth device and R3 focus would be better on defence. So only there and with R1 attack would be the situations where you should take focus on Kir.
