Some more news from FFG!

By Khyros, in X-Wing

Thanks for pointing this out

So I guess there really isn't anything new in that link... besides the confirmation that Imp Aces hits stores next week.

I don't get their thinking behind Jax's pic. His ability to prevent the use of focus doesn't mean they still don't have it. So I don't see how opportunist is any better on him.

His ability stops them from taking the action to provide a focus and spend it if they already had it. So if you end up next to him in your activation phase, you can't perform a focus action, so Opportunist is in effect... and if someone gives the ship a focus, they can't use it..

Not a good article. No real new news... unlike...FFG not the OP.

Exactly my thought. And since he's PS8, there is good chance that his opponent will still have his focus or evade token when Jax will attack. Opportunist works better on a low PS ship.

In the squad they designed, Jax will die very, very quickly at Range 1. Then your opponent will focus on getting in Soontir's way to deny his actions, then by that time Vader should be low enough on health to finish the game. This squad continues FFG's trend of not having good squads in their preview articles. I mean, seriously, 34 points on a Doom Shuttle? With Navigator? Ummm, no thanks.

Super iffy equipping a ship with an upgrade that is based on your opponent being dumb enough to willingly land within range 1. His pilot skill is 8, most of the time he's going to move last.

But since he's a PS8 pilot, it can be efficient only on PS9 pilots and PS8 if he has initiative. For the rest, it's more a denial ability that doesn't really work with opportunist.

Yeah there is that... I don't know.. I'll have to play around with it.. figure a few things out.. opportunist is going to be a hard card to use even at a low PS...

They must have been thinking with the mind set of the xwing jousters.

Aces are so ace ...

I feel like this list would be better without initiative. That way you move Fel last, and PS8 ships shoot before Jax, so he can use opportunist on the return volley.

I don't understand the deal with jax having Opportunist ... you cant use ure green tokens in range 1 of Jax ... but at the time Jax enters range 1 you probably have moved your ship first and given a focus token. Now if you fire with Fel on that ship in range 1 of Jax, this ship can't lose its token - and therefor Jax can't use Opportunist...

Or do I have misunderstood something??

That was my point too. Someone need to tellFFG to redesign the card to read" empire only gain an additional attack"

I don't see why this is called "news"

... I just wished FFG asked me how to make the Lambda a decent craft. They clearly don't know.

if only you could use Advanced Sensors with Carnor Jax......

There is two ship I plan to use to try Opportunist: Saber Squadron Interceptor and Green Squadron A-Wing.

For the Interceptor, it will force my opponent to make a some choices. Should he use his focus token on attack or keep it to defend and prevent the use of Opportunist. If he prefer to use it on defence, that's a good thing for my Interceptors since his attacks have less chance to hit. Second choice he'll have to make is: who to attack? My better pilots like Fel or Turr, or the Interceptor with Opportunist. Either way, even if I don't get to use it during the game, I'm sure it will have some impact on the decisions of my opponent, and forcing your opponent to make a choice is always a good thing since he can make an error.

For the A-Wing, I'm pretty sure that my opponent will not care too much about it since it makes them 3 dice to attack, which is pretty standard in a Rebel list. But, combined with a cluster missile, it will make them think twice. 2 attack with 4 dice in the same round sound scary. (You can use Opportunist with secondary weapon right?)

Both ship also have a lot of green maneuver so getting rid of the stress will not be that hard.

Maybe I'm just feeling pessimistic this week, but articles like this worry me to no end. Whoever wrote this is obviously not playing the same game we are.

At least they got Fel right :(

2 of those green Awings with Dutch+ion+flechette and a bandit with a concussion missile is going to cause some hurt.

FFG on fel is pretty spot on. Abuse ptl to gain evade plus focus or boost every turn. Now with target lock we are better able to gain max hit along with focus for range one!
