What kills a B-Wing?

By Frazio, in X-Wing

I have a sneaky suspicion that I am going to see a lot of B-Wing at my store championship. Just wondering if there is one ship that just tear them up or if it all comes down to piloting.

3 dice attacks really do them in. 4 of those are likely to be the death of it. But a swarm will do that quite well too. 7 attacks w/ HR rerolls should also bring one down. Either way, one round of attacking from your squad will deal it death.

If you get R1 shots though, it will still take 3 4 dice attacks, whereas the 7 swarm shots will be drastically reduced to 4.

It's all about piloting. I take them down all the time with Fel quickly.

Yeah B-Wings are nice but with 1 defense you'll land a lot of hits on it.

Focused fire kills them. If you distribute damage across their squad, they'll take forever to take down for a small ship.
Focus on them one at a time, directing shots on them with every ship you've got, and you can chip them down pretty fast. And of course, if you focus all your shots on one of them, without letting all his ships have a clear shot at any one of yours, you can win the attrition game in a hurry.

Three damage cards will do it every time, right?

Ions are the bane of Bwings!

Not every time, they might have upgraded their hull.

Wedge + Opportunist at range 1 = 5 Attack die vs. 0 defense die :) Ideally Biggs is in the background at range 3 so wedge doesn't take 4 to the face himself.

Opportunist is an Aces card and I thought I read somewhere that aces wasn't going to be allowed at the "official" store tourneys.

if biggs is at range 3 he will be more than 1 away

Not neccessarily. Remember that Wedge only needs to be R1 from Biggs. So if we say that Biggs is just outside of R3 from the opponent, then the back edge of Wedge's base is just outside of R2 from the opponent, putting his leading edge within R1 of the opponent.

has anyone actually seen or heard when the cards from the aces packs are actually legal to play in tournaments?

as for shooting at range 1 but having Biggs at range 3 of your opponent and still benig witin range 1 of Biggs with your ship, it is possible but the shipps have to be spaced very precisdely. it was a very specific situation I pointed out admittedly.

If you are Rebels, then ion turrets laugh at them (just fly past and don't give it a chance to turn). Take out the rest of the squad in the mean time.

If you are Imps, then focus fire and taking long range shots are ideal. With plenty of green dice, it will be hard for him to get damage onto you at R3 while there is a very good chance of dealing some damage to them. You probably don't want to be at R1 on the first engagement. Yes, you will do a lot of damage to a BW, but you also have a significant chance of losing a fighter or interceptor in 1 shot.

You will probably not 1-shot them so you need to go for the long game.

If you go for out-shooting them, you will problably get a modified victory at best, but if you go for ships with good dials you might win.

Bombers with proton bombs might help as the bwings are slow ships with more shields than hull

This is the technical hitch with FFG releasing the card details before the product is available. Some like to try these out forgetting they shouldn't or can't be used at a tourney. I've seen lots of lists with unreleased cards in them.

Interceptors, not flown directly at them, eat them up quick.

For rebels, Wedge or Ion do the same.

Focused fire, and swarmy things. Take 'em out a turn at a time.

Concentrated fire.

Which honestly works on everything.

There are two primary options for dealing with B-Wings (and Y-Wings). If you have an Ion cannon or better yet an ion turret, you can keep them ioned until they die/ fly off the board/ away from the fight for you to deal with the rest of their force.

The second option is focus fire. A range three shot with three attack dice against a B-Wing that has already been targeted is better than attacking one at a closer range since their low agility means that at range three, they are still unlikely to dodge more than one hit.

I think ps 9 interceptors is what I will try. A few ties short of a swarm.

Only ion available to Empire is the ion cannon, right? Has anyone had any success with it?

Take off and nuke them from orbit.

It's the only way to be sure.

Other B-wings... Asteroids,... A-wings...

Oh and there's me in a TIE Interceptor.
