Whisper , Tie Phanton load out

By Takeda, in X-Wing

I'm already coming up with ideas for this bad boy. While we don't know it's defensive capabilities "cloaking device" , we do know it has a crew slot. The only pilot we know of so far to have a pilot skill is whisper. Being that the Phanton has 4 attacks makes me look at opportunist with greed :) . Being at pilot skill 7 your odds of catching an unfocused ship are slim unless your opponent is a newb. It still makes for a good theoretical build in combination with rebel captive.

Whisper, opportunist/rebel captive/ engine upgrade.

A ship with the potential of 5 attack and 6 at range one, alpha strike much?

Things just got real...

It really will depend on how cloaking device works.

If you're just doubling defense dice you're going to want defensive upgrades anyway.

If you're swapping att/ag dice then it will depend on how stealth device interacts (does it stay with agility or move to att).

If it's awesome, you won't be shot at anyway so Rebel captive is not needed at all.

I'm guessing there will be better EPTs for her than opportunist. It likely isn't going to do enough, especially since cloaking is an action and you're not going to want to be stressed (depending on the dial-I really hope it's better than the advanced).

Other crew that will need looking at: Recon Specialist, New Tactition (awesome I'm sure), flight instructor (depending on cloaking), gunner.

Assuming the Phantom has Elite Talents. I have a feeling that it is going to be similar to the Y-wing, in that the pilots won't be able to use Elite Talents.

I'm thinking the cloaking device is going to be something you really only utalize on the initial pass.

Whisper has an elite skill, its been spoiled.

I most people agree that the lack of the EPT on the Y-Wings was a mistake (that they are correcting with the new Droid). I doubt you'll see many more ships without any EPT choices unless it's something like the Lambda where it makes sense.

It's hard for me to speculate on the Phantom as the cloaking device will likely make or break it, or at least set up most of the build-outs. Regardless, a 4-dice base weapon is certainly going to see some playing time.

Swapping dice while cloaked doesn't make sense from the fluff. If they follow how it worked in the game, the opponent wouldn't be able to target your Phantom while it's cloaked but you will have to decloak in order to shoot. Both cloak and decloak seem to eat up an action (from what we can see on the cards), so that seems fair for a 29pts, 4 attack ship.

Can't wait to learn more about what would likely be my new favourite TIE flavour!

...expensive for a ship with 2 hull and 2 shields.

I'm betting cloaking requires an action and firing decloaks automatically. At least 1 or more of the upgrades change how that happens too.

"Whisper" may be the first made-up pilot.

Probably he is from "Whisper Base"

More probably FFG likes the word "Whisper"

Quality is still better than quantity even if you die . example ... Paulaner beer, tiger tanks etc etc

This makes a lot of sense to me. Having to make decloaking your action would make the Phantom a sitting duck.

Paulaner is not a bad choice ;)

Where is this from and is it sized for miniature use? I'm guessing no to the minis but I'd like to see a bigger version.

Quiet! Don't give away the secret!

...it's a Ter-able choice...

With a green enough dial, PtL and engine upgrade could make it into a Soontir type ship with 4 attack dice, albeit with a slight PS handicap. *shrugs* Worth a shot?
