XXB List

By Ecliptic, in X-Wing

Hi All

I have been playing X-wing for a bit now causaly with my friends and brother. But this weekend i will be participating in my first store tournament, and decided maybe the community could give me some feed back for the list i am thinking of taking

Wedge - R2F2-PTL-StealthDevice

Luke - Elusiveness - Stealth Device

Blue Squ - Adv Sen - Shield Upgrade

the idea was to have the B tank and have the Xs.. be slippery

Thanks for your help

I like Luke wingmaning for Wedge but prefer taking R2D2 and draw their fire on him instead (this on the advice of some very astute forum members here). I've also found either expert handling or engine upgrade to be fantastic on Wedge. I don't really like stealth devices on thing with less than 3 base agility. The bwing is nice but maybe see if you can fit ibtisam with PTL and adv sensors.

Just my 2 pesos.

Alright, here's some straight-talk.

Trade Shield Upgrade for an Engine Upgrade, and your Blue's suddenly one of the most mobile ships in the game. This is waaaaay better than having 1 more HP.

If you're keeping Luke with a 2 point EPT, go with Expert Handling. Elusiveness doesn't do enough, particularly if your opponent is focused, while EH gives him a Barrel-Roll that shakes off TLs.

However, if we get rid of the 9 points of Stealth Device + R2-F2, we can afford R2-D2 for Luke, and an R2 Astromech for Wedge, and either a Shield Upgrade for Luke or an Engine Upgrade for Wedge.

Luke + R2-D2 is incredibly difficult to kill, as his natural tankiness means he's got more turns to regen shields.

+ Shield Upgrade gives you one more HP that regenerates.

Wedge + PTL + R2 Astromech gives you more green maneuvers to shed the double-action stress.

+ Engine Upgrade gives him a third action from which to choose, greater unpredictability, and added offense and defense (Boost into Range 1 for a +1 Attack Die, or Boost out of the enemy's firing arc so that he doesn't get shot at).

I agree that Stealth Devices work best on ships that already have a high Agi. One of the downsides to running them, though, is that those ships will eventually get shot at less, leaving your other ships to be primary targets. YMMV.

I would also push you to consider 4 ships over 3. It spread you out a bit more, so losing one ship is less crushing than if you lose one from a 3 ship list.

Just some things to consider.

Thanks for the Responces!

the thought behind Wedge was he can use PTL to Action R2F2 and focus... and with Stealth he would have 4 Evade dice.. and at range 3 it would be 5.

I can see how Stealth is works better on ships with natural higher evade..

You guys have given me lots to think about

Thanks

I agree with most of the above, but in the case of stealth on an x-wing, luke is a great candidate since his ability makes it really hard to Lose it. It basically means 2 evades on average every time he defends which can be tough to overcome.

I love the list, but I'm confused by the upgrades...

Luke - He is BUILT for Marksmanship. Then, to make him even harder to hit, give him stealth.

Wedge - I like PtL on Wedge, but then give him a R2 to deal with the stress. Engine upgrade would be nice too.

Blue- Adv. Sensors is a waste here because of how early it moves. Instead, give it a Heavy Laser Cannon. This way, your B is always rolling at least 4 attack dice!

I disagree with Stone's analysis that AdvS are wasted on a Blue. First off, against a swarm, they're invaluable. Second off, one of my favorite maneuvers to do with a B is BR right, bank left (though oddly enough, I rarely do it BR left bank right... huh... I should fix that). It ends up being basically a 1 forward with a 45 rotation. Plus, there's all of the red on the B wing's dial, K turn, 1 turn, 3 bank, 4 straight... that AdvS get's you your focus/TL anyways.

Plus, in this list, Wedge is Target #1. By the time he gets taken out, the other opponent should have enough damage that the AdvS on the blue allows you to arc dodge less maneuverable ships (read - non A wing / Interceptors), forcing shots on Luke, who'll just heal that up with R2D2.

I respect your position, and agree that is another way to play the Blue. Personally, I like to keep the cheap Blue a big rear cannon. If someone attempts to race around the X-wings, they'll have Big Blue to deal with. Little 1 minuvers is all I tend to take with Blue guarding my flank. Just a different style of play, that is all.

Further more, I like sinking the points into the big cannon, instead of Adv. Sensors, because I want the penalty of a ship falling into the B's firing arch to always be death. This keeps the B-wing healthy (because your opponent stays away from it) and predictable (because you know they will attempt to move away from it). Predictable moves means death by Wedge and Luke.

Thanks for the Input!

I modified the lists a bit. Let me know what ya think

Wedge + PTL + R2 + Engine Upgrade

Luke + PTL + R2F2 + Stealth Device

Blue Squ + Adv Sens

The idea is to have the blue tank followed by Luke being able to PTL to get the extra die and a focus + stealth he should be pretty slippery. And Wedge will be the hammer to the anvils

I have played the HLC on the blue before and i like it, but i really like how Adv Sens works for me when i play. I have played 4 ships quite a bit, I wanted to try 3 kited out ships to see how they play and what not, havent really done that before usually i would play a named pilot and 3 others, with minor upgrades, just trying to shake stuff up for me :D
