What is classed as an obstacle?

By Karnage1992, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Ok I know that obviously asteroids are classed as obstacles but my question is, do other ships count as obstacles when determing dice modifers for combat?

Eg, Ship A attacks ship C and the range ruler crosses over ship B. Would this confer an extra agility dice to ship C or no? After reading through everything I'm leaning towards no but wanted to get the comunities opinion on the matter.

No. There is absolutely nowhere in the Rules or FAQ that define a ship as an obstacle. They are two separate things.

Actually, I just grabbed my Rulebook because I was pretty sure it talks about this.

Page 10 Combat Phase 1. Declare Target under the subheading Firing Arc. The last paragraph states:

"Other ships do not obstruct firing arcs. For example, if a ship has multiple enemy ships inside its firing arc, it can target any one of them. Thematically, this represents that ships can attack above or below the other ships in 3D space."

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. :) Completely missed that bit in the BRB, too focused on looking through the obstacle and modifiers section.

NP. I read through the rulebook 3 times when I got into the game. Even so, sometimes I forget things.

I'd love to have more obstacles introduced into the game, though. Maybe a decent pilot ability, there. "When an Enemy ship is attacking an Allied ship, [pilot name] counts as an obstacle."

Biggs sort of does, you are just forced to attack him instead of your original target if the conditions are met.

The new guy would be Biggs' best friend and wingman.
