Start winning early with rebels

By polmoneys, in X-Wing

two big high PS guns and Biggs to keep them safe. I'd like to be able to kill Krassis +HLC/ Han on the second round of fire...or a B-wing per turn.

Wedge + PTL + PT+ R2

Horton + PT + PT + R5 + Blaster (staying at range 2 can't be that hard)

Biggs

I'm guessing Horton will be responsible for closing the game as a PTLed Wedge will draw all the hate. What do you think? Can this work?

It CAN work, but that doesn't mean that it WILL work. My suggestion would be to give it a go, and see what you can tweak in order to make it run.

One thing I believe you should consider is moving the Proton Torpedo from Wedge to Biggs. Double actions are much less significant with a Torpedo than with missiles or primaries. However, since PTs are likely to deliver Crits you want them to be fired last, after Wedge has had an opportunity to strip the shields off your target. So Biggs should definitely have one, and Horton fires after Wedge so putting the last 2 on him makes sense (plus, he is a surgeon with them).

The only sure thing in the game is that dice can be fickle.

I'm one of those people who don't believe that PtL is really worthwhile on Wedge unless he happens to also have a third action type at his disposal, such as R2-F2's ability or Boost from Engine Upgrade.

I only ever felt the reason for having PtL on Wedge is to maximize his damage as much as possible every turn.

I've played as and against Wedge with PTL, and found it an effective combo. With him being able to TL and focus when attacking....it's pretty horrible!

The whole 'having to do a green manouver to shake stress' thing is a huge problem though. It really makes your movement predictable and, though it means you get a sort of 'double-whammy' effect if R2-D2's in tow (shake stress and gain a shield at the same time), you're maximising damage potential while also limiting your ability to actually get an enemy in your gun-sights. Or you can just stay stressed, but in certain circumstances, both of those choices can be undesireable.

R2 astromech helps.

Will it work? Only the dice can tell you the answer to that one.

I think you might have too many eggs in the Salm basket IMHO. Add to that the terrible maneuver dial he Y-wing has and he could get out arc'd or plain blowed up before he gets to dump all that nasty onto your foe. I do like Wedge with PTL and Engine Upgrade. Also perhaps consider sticking a shield upgrade on Biggs or R2D2, though, I'm a fan of Luke with D2 and draw their fire as a tanky higher PS escort for Wedge.

Make the dice work for you! Focus & target lock.

fyi it just won against Krassis+HLC,usual Soontir set up and 2 TIE. Horton was focused first after Biggs and was able to only drop one of the PT but managed to block Soontir and a full health Wedge finished him and the remaining TIE. I went after Krassis with everything and was actionless (via crit) and only shot twice :) Red die were good, even the Blaster Turret shot was 3 hits after rerolling blanks.

I'll play few more games and let you know how it goes. When EPT is available for Horton (via new droid) I'll try:

Horton + new droid+ PTL+ PT+ Ion + Engine

Wedge + PTL+ R2 astro

Biggs

Horton is my new <3

Why not use the astromech that will let you TL and Boost all at the same time?
