PCs incapacitated at 0 or -1

This is probably a dumb one, but I am new to EotE.

I'm not sure if a character's Wound or Strain Threshold is exceeded when they are at 0 or below 0.

I'm guessing this has been hashed out long ago and an one easy on to answer. Thanks!

I guess that counting up would be more logical sense. You've never been touched, your wounds are 0 and your threshold is 10. Three rounds later, you take 5 wounds, 2 wounds and 3 wounds. You're at 10, one more would exceed that - so I'd say yes. You have to take 11 before you fall over.

Yes, counting up from zero is the way to do it. A healthy character has Wounds at zero.

Ah, counting up. Now that you've put it that way it makes sense.

I guess I'm used to systems that subtract to keep track of resources. Here you are trying to get back to 0 Wounds, Strain, etc.

Yeah, it threw me at first too. What is does allow more easily IMHO is to be able to adjust the Strain and Wound thresholds based on external events (Fear, Obligation, Crits, etc) without having to adjust the Wounds or Strain the character has taken.

I think a lot of folks have an issue with this system "counting up" from zero the when first getting started, particularly those gamers that cut their teeth with 3rd edition D&D or just D&D in general, where you "counted down" form full hit points to zero. It's almost conventional RPG logic that when taking damage, you'd "subtract" the damage suffered from your health total. Just another way that this system by a "big name" RPG company feels like an indie-publisher RPG.
